Spelling doesn't particularly bother me, more the content of posts.

It would appear that posters who contribute NOTHING related to BWFC yet do post a light dusting of occasional, drunken ramblings are fine.

Why have other well educated adults started making this glaring error?

I don't get the whole Loose/Lose error at all - the post just doesn't make sense if you read it back to your self as the words are said differently.

I can understand folk getting they're/there/their mixed up as they sound the same

I guess it's all down to a general dumbing down of society and an overall acceptance of shoddy grammar which is probably made worse by the acceptance of "text speak"

If you're referring to me, how dare you  I haven't touched a drop since October 13th (yes, I'm counting.) Therefore, it's a light dusting of; non-BWFC related, occasional, boring ramblings

Like CWP said, txt speak and laziness should be restricted to texting but, even using abbreviation in text should be discouraged if it starts creeping into everyday writing.

Remember txt speak started because it used to cost about 40p a text (and about a ?1 a minute to call someone) - this is no longer a problem.

You can't put the genie back in the bottle, so reluctantly the 'yoof' get a bye - but adults should be ashamed of themselves (the odd mistake here and there aside).

Signwriters seem to have caught the apostrohe in plurals disease recently- surely they should be helping their clients- not fooking things up for them

I pointed this out to my local greengrocer. I asked why he felt an inanimate, non-sentient object could possess thoughts, let alone comprehend the abstract concept of money.

He told me to fuck off.

:D I wasn't referring to you.

As I said, I don't have a problem with poor spelling. Some people are just a bit thick, so it's not necessarily their fault. There is, however, no excuse for "text speak" - especially when not sending a text.

Now fcuk off. You know I've got two chickens.

Youri - best wishes for the festive season, sir, for pointing out this 'loosing' bollocks which drives me nuts. Almost as nuts as folk who use 'of' for 'have'.

There have to be standards otherwise it will just descend into total jibberish. Bolton County Grammar School programmed me this way.

On a similar vein to the original topic, does anyone have certain words they spell incorrectly on a regular basis?

I send shitloads of emails every day and quite of type thnaks on them instead of thanks.

I always get other and over the wrong way round

I can never spell recommend right first time either - two c's, one m is generally the mistake

I always dither over how to spell knob/nob, I was brought up using nob but have noticed recently most folk use knob - what is the definitive spelling?

I mean knob/nob as in "He's a knobhead/nobhead" rather than "I turned the doorknob".

I'll just use bellend instead, until this important matter is resolved.
