There was a lot of overhit stuff yesterday especially when Millwall got behind Mears 2nd half

Eagles allowed himself to be distracted and talked out of the penalty. Unbeliveably he continued to talk to Shitu and another Millwall player right up to taking the penalty, who presumably where debating the award of the penalty or just trying to put Eagles off.Presumably all tactics from the Millwall players and it worked! You could see that Eagles hadn't focused properly when he came up to take it. Eagles has been one of the better(if not the best player)this season and he hit the free kick for his goal yesterday sweetly therefore I dont think it was the wrong decision to allow him to take the penalty.Obviously the wrong outcome though! As with any missed penalty kick it's easy to be wise after the event.

I thought Davies was the penalty taker though. I can't recall Super John or Shearer etc handing a 'goal 'to someone else.

Our best penalty taker can't get anywhere near the pitch at the moment.

 

I was happy fenough to hear that it was Eagles who was taking it .. but he clearly let Shittu get under his skin.

It's a sensible system. If the captain is too scared to take penalties himself that's not a good sign.

And, as has been said, Eagles was clearly distracted when he has preparing to take the kick.

K.Davies scored 5 pens in a row, but missed his last two against Arsenal and Wigan.

 

Petrov then became our pen taker and never missed, Klasnic had one pen and scored too.

He's the captain. He had the opportunity to take it but didn't bother.

Eagles was already reacting to the crowd's baiting, but the captain didn't choose to impose himself.

I'd missed a couple and petrov was the new ice man. No excuse not to hit the target, if saved fair enough.

Eagles had scored from a free kick & was confident, won the penalty, grabbed the ball & was presumably the designated penalty taker. No problem.

 

The problem was that during the customary complaints about the award of the penalty, two Millwall players verbally got at Eagles & he got into an argument with them & was clearly distracted.

 

Eagles was a dick for getting involved in an argument when he should have been single- mindedly concentrating on scoring the penalty....and then he could have rammed it down the Millwall players' throats, but the rest of our players share the responsibility for not getting between Eagles & the Millwall players quicker.

 

Just another sign of how amateurish we have become.
