Flannel Truscott Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Didn't we trigger a clause that gave him an automatic extension? Quote
Members DazBob Posted November 27, 2012 Members Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) Didn't we trigger a clause that gave him an automatic extension? That's what I thought. If he played X amount of games last season then his contract renewed itself for another year. Not sure if that's definitely right but it's something I read/heard. tomski Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 What I don't understand is the opinion of he's a luxury and we can't afford this but Eagles is fine they do just as much defensive work (maybe Petrov more only just) if we can only have one I'd prefer Petrov in and like casino says what did happen in that Burnley game as he was main man all the way through pre season? famouswanderer Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Maybe its the same this season and we dont want to trigger it... Quote

Guest Frandsen08 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 the same eagles, with 6 goals and 9 assists? that eagles? Quote
tomski Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 So, to clarify, given the choice of either Eagles OR Petrov, you'd go for Petrov? Yikes. Yes as a fan of a balanced team with actual wingers I'd choose petrov, our experiment of mavies on the right and eagles on the left ended up being a disaster. Any team with width would destroy us. I'm not a fan of eagles but I know a lot of you are, would he not be better as a second striker? Quote
Site Supporter MickyD Posted November 27, 2012 Site Supporter Posted November 27, 2012 wouldn't it have made sense not to renew petrovs contact if we wanted rid? Unless we wanted a better fee for him and the bids never rolled in. That's my best guess as to why OC would have lengthened his contract. Quote

Personally, yes, I'd like to see him in an advanced midfield role behind the striker and with Petrov on the left. Given a choice of only one of them though, as you stated, then Eagles all day long. FWIW in my opinion for the chances he has and little work he does for the team I don't think his return is good enough but he appears to be flavour of the month. Quote
Moderators Zico Posted November 27, 2012 Moderators Posted November 27, 2012 owt to do with Coyle's selections is old news, some were mind boggling at best, but clean slate move on and all that he started all 3 games under Phillips/Lee he looked well up for it v Bristol & Cardiff and played well but didn't start again till Blackpool, out of position, and not been seen since DFs selections have been put down to getting to know the team, and he's been getting to know the players personally seems to me there's a clash or DF doesn't see him fitting in long term on the evidence of the games he's played since Coyle left, Petrov should be featuring if he doesn't get in the squad tomorrow his time is probably up, and wouldn't blame him for doing one in Jan Quote

You not see his assist for Ngog on Saturday I take it? You're clearly hard to please. Quote
Site Supporter HomerJay Posted November 27, 2012 Site Supporter Posted November 27, 2012 in a 4231, i'd have eagles and petrov in the team, infact theres only a fit cyl should ever stop that happening imo Quote

Moderators Casino Posted November 27, 2012 Moderators Posted November 27, 2012 how does that compare to his much more effective teammates Quote
tomski Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 how does that compare to his much more effective teammates Petrov 6 starts 2 goals 3 assists and 9 shots. If were going down the stats route, petrov surely wins? Quote
Moderators Casino Posted November 27, 2012 Moderators Posted November 27, 2012 a goal every 3 and an assist every 2 its about the same, isn't it eagles has been a revelation he works harder for the team than most and he's consistently our main threat petrov is so talented but you can't help thinking its all about him - like he'd prefer to put in the perfect cross that didn't lead to a goal, rather than a scuffed affair that did i honestly don't see why anybody would consider leaving eagles out of the team - dunno where i'd play him, but i'd play him Quote

Would rather do a run and shoot for glory than pass and a defo goal. The 108 shots must suggest this. I think if we are to pursue with him he has to play as a forward Quote
Moderators Casino Posted November 27, 2012 Moderators Posted November 27, 2012 he is quick to shoot in a team with kevin davies and david ngog, it's the only way we'd have a shot some weeks Quote
Members DazBob Posted November 27, 2012 Members Posted November 27, 2012 he is quick to shoot in a team with kevin davies and david ngog, it's the only way we'd have a shot some weeks My thoughts precisely. It's not like, especially when K.Davies is playing, he can look up and pick out a clever run that the striker has done to create an opening. He's better off taking his chances with a pot-shot. ... having said that, the goal on Saturday involved Eagles running into the area picking out Ngog who'd cleverly dropped back and created space. It'd be nice to see quite a bit more of that in the coming weeks/months. Quote
