Con Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Does the capacity actually change? - I thought you had to stand in front of a seat anyway, so therefore the capacity is the same no matter if it's all standing or all seating. Anyway, if we do this, will the Megsons Millions return? Nah, I started going again pre season this year Quote
Rembrandt Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Your naivety is charming Beat me to it, Daz. If there's one thing that will stop it, it'll be the clubs' fear of less income being fleeced off the fans. Mind you, they won't say that. Quote
Rembrandt Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Oh, and to be effective atmosphere-wise, they'd have to sell unallocated tickets so like-minded fans could group together. If they only sold pre-allocated standing tickets (given the extra safety measures etc), it wouldn't actually be that much different. Except for the fans who want to stay seated in a seating area and still see the match. Quote
Marc505 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I think there is Homo.... It seems to be finally gathering momentum. Big thing about it on Talksport the other day. Quite a few clubs behind it,Villa,Palca,Derby.Cardiff to name a few. It winds me up,the Hillsborough support group sticking their noses in,the kind of area thats being piloted is fuck all like the old terracing, and its safer to stand in one of these sections than stand in a seated area. I spend 80% of the game stood up in ESL anyway. And besides, the atmosphere is that shite at the Reebok, anything must be worth a go. It works across the board in Bundesliga....that being with lower ticket prices. Get it done I say. The lower ticket prices have probably more to do with helping create a good atmosphere than the fact people are stood up to be honest. I dont buy the idea that just because some safe standing areas are installed that suddenly a great atmosphere will be created. Found it interesting to note in an article about standing the other day that City fans were so bowled over by the atmosphere at Dortmund the other week. But terracing at German stadiums is banned in European games anyway and it knocks off about 15,000 from Dortmund's capacity as seats are installed. Id say the "great atmospheres" at German games (and to be fair, its not 90 minutes of constant noise, far from it) can be attributed more to things like fans feeling more involved with their clubs through clubs having to be 51% owned by members, to the cheap ticketing, even down to things like more local youth players being fielded by the top sides. That said, yeah Id stand if safe terraces were brought back, but it wouldnt create a huge couldron of noise and passion! Quote

Moderators Casino Posted December 14, 2012 Moderators Posted December 14, 2012 fcuk knows and cant be arsed either way atmosphere at away games is often ok and thats all seated its nowt to do with pricing its all to do with being pissed Quote
Marc505 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Oh right I was sure their terraces were removed for uefa games as well taking their capacity down from 69,000 to 66,000 Quote
EyesRight Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 At all seater stadiums away from home you can get stuck in front of people who want to sit down during the game meaning you sit down and don't bother singing. A terrace and a seating option like Peterborough would be better. A terrace would only work with unreserved standing though so people can stand with their mates, shortest at the front etc... If people want to stand and sing they know where the ESL is, if they're not using that now, why would they use a terrace? I'm the yes group JFTR, but only cos I'm getting sick of bruised shins. Quote
RUREADY2ROLL Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I'd love standing areas to be brought back, the fact that quite a few folk are getting giddy about Peterborough says it all - the fans want it and the customer is always right! As it happens, I would probably still have a seat at home games but having the option would be good Lazy bugger Are you doing Peterborough - we are going Quote

Yes, I'm going, train gets in to peterboro at 11.36 then find an ale house from there Quote
Ghana White Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I've seen the design they have two rows of people inbetween every barrier so it'll increase the capacity... prob not change the price of a ticket though.. I'm all for it, I doubt it will ever hapen though Quote
Site Supporter superjohnmcginlay Posted December 15, 2012 Site Supporter Posted December 15, 2012 No issue from me if they want to bring a standing area in, I'm quote happy sat down these days Quote
