Arsenal Having A Dennis Bergkamp Statue

A good player but not worthy of a statue at a great club like Arsenal, makes Arsenal look a bit small time for me.

Sneak preview of Dennis's statue - provisionally entitled "if it's all the same to you, I'm going over there to the train station instead"

Maybe it could have Marco Gabbiadini breaking his leg?

All double dutch to me

Bruce Rioch signing?

Bruce Rioch signing?

Indeed.

Is he dead? If not, why bother

Should they not get an Ian Wright one though?

Isn't the pose of the statue from when he was playing for Holland

I don't think they have to be dead, they just have to be legends. Ian Wright would be ok, he is an all time Arsenal legend. If Bergkamp is considered a legend they'd probably need to do 40 statues!! Henry was the outstanding striker from the Bergkamp days and i'd definitley put Viera above Bergkamp and Petit and maybe even Ljungberg up with him, not even thinking about the defence and goalkeeper.

They could get one of Tony Adams ploughing a car into a wall

Haha. Quality

It all seems a bit odd. Do they have statues of any other players around the ground?

There must be a whole host of players who should be 'immortalised' ahead of Bergkamp (fantastic player that he was).

There's enough folk prepared to wank themselves into a frenzy over Frank Worthington's five minutes at Burnden.

Bergkamp managed 400+ appearances over eleven seasons, winning the league three times and the Cup four.

So?

I think if there was ever talk about a Worthington statue, these 'wankers' would think there'd be players far more deserving.

Yes, quite a few.

True, there are players who have made more appearances, but not many, I don't think.

There are already statues of Adams (not at the wheel) and Henry.

I doubt many of the players above Bergkamp will have brought the fans as much pleasure, though a group statue of Dixon, Winterburn, Adams and Keown in a line, hands raised as Seaman makes a "push up" gesture behind them would be amusing.

Pat Rice looks too much like Elton for it to work, but Graham Rix, maybe? Or Paul Merson doing his ale celebration?

Yes, quite a few.

That's why I asked as I had no idea.

Turns out they have 3.

Chapman, Adams and Henry.

If I was an Arsenal fan I reckon I'd want something that emulated either that famous defence all with their arms raised, or something to commemorate their unbeaten season.

... or one of Michael Jackson.

Elton John do? Two birds, one stone, etc.

... or one of Michael Jackson.

It is simply brilliant...

Is it just me, or does anyone else reckon Al-Fayed's house probably looks like an 'upmarket' (is that possible) Brighthouse?

If we're talking statues, this 'affable Oompa-Loomp carrying a giant malteser', supposedly Southampton chairman Ted Bates always deserves a mention. It was a snip at £112,000 - melted down for scrap after about a week!

Were the legs modelled on LW's? :D

Well thats Arsenal for you now, lead by the man that tells them finishing 4th is better than winning a Cup.

Madness.

It is. Cup over 4th anyday. Don't get me wrong if we did finish fourth I wouldn't be too upset but silverware is the aim of the game surely, spoke to a pompey fan recently and regardless of all that's gone on, he loved that cup win and so he should.

I reckon most Arsenal fans would rather qualify for the Champions League than win a cup.

BTW, it's Denis, not Dennis. Pretty sure I remember his name was spelt that way as his dad was a fan of Denis Law.

I reckon most Arsenal fans wish they were Bolton fans ha ha. I used to love it when we beat them under Allardyce and genuinely frustrated when we didn't a la the Henry 97th minute equaliser at highbury
