paulhanley Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) Obviously we'll play Coyle at Wigan next year but when was the last time we played an ex manager who we'd sacked? We've played a few who left under other circumstances (Rioch, Allardyce) but to my mind it is a long time since we played someone that the board removed. Don't think we ever played Todd or Neal at their later clubs. Definitely not Lee or Megson. Would it be Ian Greaves some time in the 1980s when he'd gone to Mansfield or Oxford? Con Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I would have thought Ian Greaves, but did we never play against one of Phil Neals sides? (Was he in charge when we played Coventry once??) Quote

Guest Blixa Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Didn't they bring an away following of 2 once to Burnden in the pouring rain and get let into our end for shelter? Or something like that. Quote
Members DirtySanchez Posted July 3, 2013 Members Posted July 3, 2013 Match of the day highlights later on, zico quite clearly 'gesturing' to their scorer, Trevor Benjamin(?), celebrating in front of us. And having a fucking awful pint of ale in a pub, even worse than the bitter at Leicester last season, before the game is all I can remember of that game Quote

If I remember correctly that was a grim 0-0 draw some time around 85, some time around Xmas. We beat them in the return fixture on the last day of the season and Roger Walker scored! Cambridge were rock bottom of the league (Division 3) all that season Quote

Traf Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I remember a 2-2 draw there in Division 4, largely because it was a Friday night and I was too pissed to cope with my crutches properly. Quote

Third last game of that season, followed by a 4-0 win at home against Colchester and then the famous Wrexham match. Quote
