Youri McAnespie Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) Was wandering along the Bradshawgate "strip" before, most along there seemed to have offers for daytime drinkers, average seemed to be around 1.85 Last time I took a similar stroll, well - they'd have to pay me £1.85 a pint to sup in any of the bars/pubs along there these days. Looked like downtown Damascus after an earthquake and zombie invasion. Edited July 5, 2013 by Youri McAnespie Quote
magic legs Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Blimey ML, you're a brave man going in there! Did you have a couple in The Whip while you were in the vicinity....? Never been in. Just walk past it on way to gym every week and there are always deadbeats smoking outside it. Been in the General Eliot and there was definitely an unwelcoming feeling in there. Quote
Krimzon Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 My local is a Sam Smiths and the cask in there is £1.80 a damn good pint too. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 99p from bottles of Staropramen/Mahou/Tuborg in the George and Dragon in Leyth for the last couple of weeks. Got smashed last week watching the cricket on telly after the rugby. That's more of a special offer thing, though their real ales are always a good price (and a good pint as well). £1.49 for Tetley's cask, £1.65 for guest ales. Nice pub as well. £1.59 for a pint of John Smith's in the Thomas Burke (Wetherspoon's). God love Leyth and it's price vacuum. Quote
darwen_white Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Lager £1.65 a pint in the Duncan in Leeds. Can anyone beat that? This must be the reduced alcohol Alpine lager. 2.5% Sam Smiths pubs still take some beating though. Quote

darwen_white Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 They tend to change the names of their beers, maybe it was called that at some time. They do a strong lager about 5%, on keg, I think it's called Pure Brew. and another lager about 4.5% Quote

Use to have it on tap at the Duke of Bridgewater in Farnworth, They stopped selling it at one point because of the aggro it caused. Quote

The Bridgewater, is that the place you could borrow plastic 'ceramic jug' type things at chucking out time to take home/wherever filled from tap with however many pints you wanted - return the bottle next time you were in? Greene King I think the beer was. On the subject someone else mentioned about some 2.5% Lager. Does anyone know what's going on with this? I keep noticing more and more brands bringing out versions of this piss. We're not going to end up like Sweden are we, where the neither use nor ornament useless piss 2% beer is about a third the price of a proper drink. Has it got owt to do with the Government? I thought they (the Coalition) were quite healthy in their attitude to the population and alcohol - as in let them all get pissed as rats on cheap booze? Edited July 5, 2013 by Youri McAnespie Quote
EyesRight Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 A bit of an acquired taste is Tadddy......but once you've acquired it,it's not bad at all. That's what they serve at Oyster bar in Manchester, I can have about 4 pints before I need to move on to something else, it is an odd one. That used to be less than £2 a pint until recently as well.
