Well in this era of FFP and financial responsibility then yes.

Might as well close the thread.

Is there really any point of BWFC having an academy?

A strange question.  Why do you ask?

Any chance you can go and bore someone else?

I'll play.

You are correct there's no point because everytime we get rid of someone we sign someone to replace him.

Year upon year upon year. And if heaven forbid we might not have 3 players for every position we usually get some loan in to prevent any youth getting even a whiff of the bench.

Ofcourse I'm sure someone we along to say that we haven't got anyone good enough anyways therefore an irrelevant argument.

Vela, eaves, Bolger, tother Eastern European mon, whoever kid keeper is, lester. Non good enough apparently

Who have we 'got rid of' who has gone on elsewhere and proven the management were wrong to do so?

Jon Walters

My question, obviously Fat Sam neglected the academy for years in favour is signing 34 years old French folk, so:

how long does it take to turn that around? I'd say ten years.

Josh Vela, Chris Youngs, Odelusi, all stand a chance. Do we fuck them off?

Apologies for biting to a loaded question.

Jon Walters was picked up from Blackburn when they sacked him for robbing, btw.

Yeah we've unearthed the likes of gerrard, rooney, walcott and co so keep it on

Jon Walters

Nicked (no pun intended) from Blackburn, doesn't really count

And how many clubs did he have since leaving us to get where he is? Hull and Ipswich spring to mind,

Don't think we can say we really got it wrong if it took a few moves to get where he is.

not sure he did

off top of head he promoted Nolan, Hunt, J OBrien, Vaz Te and Holden to the first team

There is no one.

But I'm convinced there would have been someone if we hadnt had this constant strategy to sign sign sign when someone got injured.

Yeah we've unearthed the likes of gerrard, rooney, walcott and co so keep it on

The top 6 clubs attract the best at young ages.

We need either those not noticed elsewhere or later developers.

Last year's team reached the QF of the FA Youth Cup, and half of that squad are still eligible.

A knockout cup has its perils, of course,  and if we'd beaten Spurs 5 or 6 to 4, instead of 8-4, may be we'd have beaten Forest 3-2 instead of losing by that score.

Nolan was developed by Liverpool, Vaz Te in Portugal, Holden wasn't one of Sams players.

JOB and Nicky Hunt (Man Utd?) with no one on the conveyor belt when he left then?

Nolan - developed from a centre back to midfielder after his release by Liverpool.

Hunt - OK till it went to his head.

O'Brien - as a 19 year-old on loan at Wednesday he was made captain for his last game, which says a lot. Long term injuries did for him.

Vaz Te - learned English at the expense of learning to tie his bootlaces.

Holden - not an Academy product, but btw he was discovered by Moyes, who couldn't accommodate him at Everton and referred him on to Sunderland. Injuries!

Dean, not Stuart, Holden

Gareth Bale came within one match of being dumped by Southampton at 16.

If he had been he might now be in Cardiff's squad. Or not.

Think he meant Dean not Stuart

they still developed in our academy though and he was willing to take players from it and put them in the squad/first team

so it's not really neglecting it

Dean, not Stuart, Holden

Sorry - I knew that when I first read it but lost the plot later. Injury did for him too, though.

Kyle Bartley was one of ours.

We got £1m from Arsenal for him.

His mum is a dinner lady at a school where my uncle works. Fact. ITK
