COYW
If that's Belgium's 'golden generation', it'll be another 30 years before they make it past the quarter finals again.
stevieb
If that's Belgium's 'golden generation', it'll be another 30 years before they make it past the quarter finals again. They were pretty pants throughout. Managed to win in the group stages despite being shite in the majority of all games.

COYW
Why was the commentator having a meltdown at the thought of the Dutch keeper being substituted? He seemed to think that it was some spur of the moment decision by van Gaal. Surely it's sensible to bring on the keeper best suited to saving penalties if the game's heading that way? Didnt get that either. Danny Murphys said the keeper going off was being made to look a bit of lemon. What a load of bollocks.
MalcolmW
Didnt get that either. Danny Murphys said the keeper going off was being made to look a bit of lemon. What a load of bollocks. A freshh keeper who is mentally prepared for the situation, or a keeper whose already been in a game extended to 120 minutes? Of course, if an injury arises in the final 15 minutes a plan like that could be abandoned, leaving the first keeper bemused and tired.
Marc505
Cant see anything wrong with it myself, they brought him on because hes taller and has better reach - pragmatism at its best. BBC says Krul knew itd happen but the first choice keeper didn't, I agree with that as well

SatanGreavsie
Watching it made me think - if the designated penalty taker puts the ball down and then jogs backwards for a big run-up, only to turn his ankle and be unable to take the pen - can someone else do it? Smiley
Like the Dutch to win it now. New name on the cup. Europe win in South America. Piss the home fans off. Heard that if its a Holland vs Brazil final Tom Daley has been drafted in to ref it.

MalcolmW
what if somebody gets sent off, ie the keeper can he be substituted in fact, why can't the keeper be subbed at full time rather than during the game No substitutions can take place after the final whistle as the match is over. If it's a drawn match in a knockout competition then penalties are used to decide who advances. But the match itself is and remains a draw. (It just feels like a win/loss). Only those players on the field at the final whistle can take part. If a goalkeeper breaks a finger trying to save the first penalty, well that's tough. Just as if someone injures himself on his runup (or even on his walk from halfway). The best shoot-outs are those that go beyond the first 5 nominated players. Note that if one side has had a player sent off, one of the opposition is excluded from the shoot-out (but at least they choose for themselves). And if teams are still level after all pairs have taken their shots, then they repeat in their pairs.
