If he'd booted the ball into the crowd, he have got a yellow. Just wants to keep the game moving and concedes a penalty. FFS, the world is definitely going mad, where has common sense gone? We'll have rules for breathing soon.
enzo gambaro
Not sure when the law changed but that would have been punishable by a caution and an indirect free kick not long ago. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect substitutes to stay off the field of play, though. Why the fuck are they standing there in the first place? There are a few countries where subs warm up behind the goal, including Scotland. Makes sense really so as not to interfere with the linesman's line of sight on the opposite touchline, plus I suppose there are a few grounds where there is a bit more space behind the goal than there is along the touchline. enzo gambaro
They don’t have to be right on the touchline, though. I’d expect clubs to re-think where their subs warm up if they know they’re running the risk of conceding a penalty. Behind the opposition goal seems more sensible, though may not go down well. I agree they shouldn't be "playing the ball", but I don't see that there was anything intentional there. Maybe just a word in his ear would have sufficed, or a yellow if the ref feels he needs to make an example. No need for a penalty.
