"Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal."

If that's correct, then he deserves his money.

Don't know what his contract said, but the guy has been found not guilty, so a tricky situation for a club.

he should've been paid

reminds me of Adam Johnson

he was guilty, he knew it and so did his lawyers

but he pleaded not guilty as the trial would be 12 months plus off, and in that time he had something like £3M in wages Sunderland would have to pay him

if he pleaded guilty they would have tore his contact up

so he waited to the very last moment before the trial, then changed his plea, and was much better off finanically for doing so

That, in employment law, isn't quite correct. If he was unable to fulfill his contract then the club could dismiss him. Waiting until the law plays out ... which can take a v v long time ... isn't required. Also the level of proof in a Court case is hugely different than in an Employment Tribunal. Waiting isn't required & isn't clever.

City's weak point is that they DID wait & DIDN'T sack him. So he remained an employee.

The only thing I can think of in City's defence, is whether the contract contained something around acceptable behaviour which they feel he breached, and that is what the case will centre around.

Don't know enough about the story, to have any idea of what "behaviour" is known to have occurred.

I get what you're saying around being able to fulfil his obligations, but city did choose to suspend him and not play him. At no point before the case was the player saying he couldn't play (as far as I'm aware). Of course that wouldn't have been a good look.

He admitted to a series of sexual behaviours & treatment of easily influenced & impressionable young gold-diggers which were not exactly pleasant... including locking people in his home. He denied this was rape, but consensual & with people capable of making up their own minds.

I think they'd have had good reason to terminate, or at least suspend, his contract. He's paid to play football but he was, long term, unable to do this.

The behaviours he admitted to were reprehensible and brought his employer into disrepute.

But they didn't sack him, they rather foolishly, waited for the Court case to play out.

They do appear to have suspended his contract whilst unavailable, which is his contention.

With my limited information I think they COULD have legitimately sacked him, I'm not sure they actually DID though.

That's why (some) lawyers get the big bucks.

I reckon they'll settle out of Court once arguments are done.

Watched the Sporting v Gil Vicente game this morning, mainly due the Sporting being the final leg of a multi bet for our punters club.

Got the required result but the Portuguese League has to be the worst in Europe for simulation? FFS, they don't half ham it up at the least bloody thing. Benfica, Porto and Sporting are tremendous betting 'reliables' but the amateur dramatics start to wear thin after a while.

Its exactly what happened, other players got out of cars to talk to them. Gordon ran off down an already blocked street.🤣

Good for them.

It isn't exactly what happened though- that is a disingenuous claim.

We've all seen the videos from that time.

There was an increasingly atmosphere, which had spilled over into the streets. Not the way to behave, and if a player felt uncomfortable then that's perfectly understandable.

People have to take responsibility for their actions. That includes fans. And scousers.

He just drove past a couple of yougf lads shouting "talk to us" - Thats all that happend.

Then he went  down an already blocked street as the same lads laughed and recorded him...call the army in ffs!!!🤣

Mountain out of a molehill.

The lad refused to play or train after his dream move to Chelsea failed.

Peps losing the plot, having a dig at pundits now

Utd banning them

Like that makes any difference these days

All for reporting there was a squad fall out

Ten Hag then says he has the full backing of the squad "except maybe one of two"

The sooner they get DF in as director, the better

It's the hope that kills you. He will waltz away with the Premier League championship again this season. Daylight second. Your lot might make the top four. Just in case, light a candle right now.

*The longer they wait to do the obvious thing of putting in a DoF the better. 😁

I thought there was a kit clash too! Might be different at pitch level like.

Forest absolutely biz again, they're playing like they've thrown the towel in. Heading for 1 win in 12.
