Yeah - it's just daft, moving away from what football clubs actually are to just brands. It's what Fifa wants, fans watching on TV buying into the product, and it kills off the local support for smaller clubs. That and the whole sport washing rubbish. Should stop calling it soft power, when it's actually about power. Quote

It’s Fannies like United and Liverpool that think their organic money is somewhat better than others. While the Wrexham rise is a good example of this that people explain that it’s not quite the same as they’ve had money. I’m yet to see an asterisk next to their promotion where it says has money next to it. Quote

Bournemouth didn't get where they are today without spending a few quid about £350m net since they first got promoted to PL in a ground that sits less than 12k table here https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/fuenfjahresvergleich/wettbewerb/GB1 Quote

Given the repeated visits to Wembley, champions league games, domestic cups and league games, it's no bloody wonder that a relatively small number went. It's not the final neither, which is another bug bear. Money isn't exactly growing on trees for many, and maybe previous heavy football spending has had to be curtailed. Especially as they have now got the final itself to pay for; again something for which many will have to budget for, and maybe could only afford the one trip. I don’t blame them one bit- fans are continually pressed for cash by clubs- and I hope it makes some of the hierarchy wake up. Doubt it will though. Just speaking to a city fan at work who didn't go to the semi. His logic was "if we'd won I'd want to shell out for final tickets, if we'd lost I'd rather not have gone" Makes sense Edited April 29 by Stig Quote

We had the Villa Semi there but it wasn't commonplace then and obviously it closed the season after. Remember when Oldham knocked us out in quarters their semi was at Wembley and they drew witn DMB then lost the replay at Maine Road. Luton Chelsea in the other. Wonder why they picked those seasons for Wembley and then later again? Quote

Unfair even more so on those with kids Quote

Sure it stemmed from 93 (I think) when it was north London Derby and Sheffield derby in both semis and it was pure play on capacity as it was twice the size of every other ground at that point 91 semi was at Wembley too from memory for north London derby Edited April 29 by tomski Quote
tomski Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Tough call on who I want to win this. Arsenal are practically French. 3-3 Quote

bolty58 Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) Just watched Arsenal v PSG. Precisely what I expected to see. A triumph of continental guile and tactical sophistication over the typical Premier League huff and puff. Don't get me wrong, I too enjoy the tests of speed, strength and stamina which English football provides. It's just that when it clashes with some of the continentals, more often than not the result doesn't go in Englands favour. Not sure this will ever change due to supporters tastes. Hopefully somewhere along the line we can experience a period of dominance again. How the fuck PSG didn't win by 3 or 4 I'll never know. Edited April 29 by bolty58 Quote

L/H White Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Game had a decent 5 mins at the end of the first half neither team looked like scoring the 2nd half really Quote
