We had a ref making his Premier league debut the other day, and over ruling VAR after they had asked him to take a look at the screen. He ultimately makes the decision, not those in a studio. It's up the the PGMOL or whoever is in charge to assess the ref's performance later. As others have said, no one would have bothered one iota had he just allowed the goal to stand. Sorry but that is utter nonsense. Asking a ref to review is asking a ref to review, nothing more. Plenty would have bothered if he just independently decided to let the goal stand on grounds of common sense. It wasn't pretty and VAR is shite by and large but in this instance it was the right call. Quote

Fans, yes. His bosses, not a chance. You're suggesting he should have ignored an absolutely blatant foul by Haaland. His bosses wouldn't stand for that just because he felt it was the right thing to do. It's also absolutely nothing like sticking by a decision even though VAR have asked you to take another look at it - but JFTR fair play to the ref that did it. I wish more did. gonzo Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Only think you can blame the ref for is for not blowing for the original foul. Quote

He probably did want to play on, in the hope it would be a goal ... But Haaland then dragging him back left him with no choice. Would've been interesting if he'd have still sent off Szoboszlai. Quote
L/H White Posted February 9 Posted February 9 any positives to come out of var? caused far more controversy than I can ever remember before it Quote

It's ruined the game. Complicates things and takes away everything we follow football for. Quote

I think (and hope) that @gonzo meant the foul by Haaland, as playing advantage was the correct decision. At that point its either going to be a goal, or a red, and the second foul decided which.
