Youri McAnespie Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I hope they don't 'delete' the assistant greeter role at the One Stop Shop, what if the main greeter is busy, there'd be no-one to point to the window with the sign saying "Council Tax" and say "That window over there" after they've enquired what is the purpose of your visit and you've replied "Council Tax"... Big E Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 They should allow younger folk to go first and then not replace them retiring when they finally hit the age.....win win......loads of em gone! Quote
frank_spencer Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I took the money and left about 18 months ago to become self employed and look after the wife and little un. In my department (other than me and a lass that left due to her own health issues.) it was mainly folk 55+ taking early retirement. About 10 senior in age and qualification engineers have left (and this knob-ed) since the voluntary redundancy/retirement packages were offered. My mum finally got her retirement from bury granted in December after asking for it when they were first offered years back. It all depends on the staffing level of each department if they get granted or not. Quote
Site Supporter only1swanny Posted February 18, 2015 Site Supporter Posted February 18, 2015 I keep on telling wife to go for it and get something else but she's worried incase she can't get something else.. Quote
Moderators Carlos Posted February 18, 2015 Moderators Posted February 18, 2015 well, you would, wouldnt you i dont blame anybody trying to get a pay out good luck to em You would but why the fuck are we offering them? I worked for a company (in the real world), office of 50 or so people. One day we arrive to be told it was closing and 35 of them were let go there and then. Well, on gardening leave for 4 weeks. They got basic statutory redundo, which was a grand give or take a few hundred either way. Such is life! Quote
Traf Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Casino missed an "n" out of the thread title. Quote

no balls Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Redundancy shouldn't be on a voluntary basis, it should be properly managed. Quote
tomski Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Kin ell wouldn't anyone queue up for this if offered? I would if it was an option. Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 It's strikingly obvious, but I'll point it out anyway, the ones who are likely to apply are arguably the ones who are confident of something else turning up, perhaps not the best candidates for redundancy. Quote
Members DazBob Posted February 18, 2015 Members Posted February 18, 2015 I was lucky enough to be made redundant last year. It enabled me to sit on my arse all summer before sprucing up my CV and get a job with far better prospects whilst still having more money in the bank than I've ever had before and probably ever will have again. Fair fucks to anyone who can get it if they want it. Quote
Site Supporter Spider Posted February 18, 2015 Site Supporter Posted February 18, 2015 20 or so posts and no one has blamed Thatcher yet. The commies are losing their touch Quote
freds dad Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I took redundancy from BT over 5 years ago when they were asking for volunteers and offering silly amounts of money to leave. I left at Christmas 2009, took 3 months off then applied for and got the first job I went for which paid more money that my old BT job.f you are confident you can be employed elsewhere then it's a no brainer. Andydee Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 My father in law took voluntary redundancy from British Leyland at 48 and retired, never worked another day in his life. Quote
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 18, 2015 Site Supporter Posted February 18, 2015 Took the money just over 3 years ago, put it towards setting up. It is an over generalisation to say best people are in private sector, though not totally incorrect. Speaking in my field, many moons ago people in the 'parks' were fully trained/qualified horticulturalists who did a good job and had a pride in their work. Some deadwood but same in any industry. Then came compulsory competetive tendering. Give the work to the cheapest bidder. An influx of poorly qualified, poorly paid, disinterested employees soon followed. Its a continuing cycle of cuts then investments depending upon who is in power. Quote
Guest Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Without sweeping generalisation, I expect most of the "best people" are already in the private sector Not necessarily. The trouble with the public sector in general is that they don't always have mechanisms in place to recognise and rapidly promote the most able. Sometimes people leave because of this, but I think more often they just get ground down by it. Quote
Smiffs Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Redundancy should be used to get shut of the bone idle and incompetent first. Quote
little whitt Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Redundancy should be used to get shut of the bone idle and incompetent first. Is Bolton council can you narrow it down Quote
stevieb Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 How many weeks per year do the council get with vr? I'm 8 year's in in the private sector and if it happens before November I'll get 4 per year which would be great. It won't happen but after that it drops to statutory which I think is a week per year. Quote
Guest Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Redundancy should be used to get shut of the bone idle and incompetent first. A scythe would be a better method for that. Quote
