Well, seeing as Starmer and some of his acolytes have said they won't be watching it it would appear that viewing figures will be zero.

has he?

i thought he said he wouldnt go to qatar if invited which seemed fair enough

not watching it on the box would be a bit odd

Exactly-Starmer isn't watching on principle.

Absolutely no different to anyone who says they won't watch for any other reason.

They should show every game in the HoC. One half wearing rainbows the other half chucking bacon butties at them.

The SNP complaining such behaviour justifies another referendum as it wasn't haggis.

So you've got not wanting to watch because of rainbow laces and players taking the knee.

Then you've got not wanting to watch because of the host countries awful human right's record

Absolutely no difference there.

What

so

ever

Utter crap.

They're our national players representing the country.

Where has starmer and all the mps been in the years since it was announced?

A number of comments initially then next to nothing. No attempt to introduce legislation to stop participation- wonder why that might be?

If he's got a beef, take it up with the footballing authorities. If they refuse to change the location then look at further action. He (all of them) could have done more but didn't.

So now, he's trying to make a belated point by refusing to watch the lads. It's not their fault.

I wonder what will happen should we win- will he stand up in Parliament (as he did to say he won't watch) and congratulate them? Would he have refused a reception for them if he'd been pm?

Folk can see the difference between criticising the decision to play there, and supporting the players, except him and a few others with another pissing with the wind stance, to court favour with the usual lot.

The lads, as you call them, have been making their stance against inequality for the last couple of years or so.... Now they have the chance to make the biggest stance of all not one of them will.

They could kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, by boycotting the opening game against Iran next week what with what's going on over there

One in each eye for the middle East right there

I just had to look up the 'metropolitan elite' 😁

:D I could have saved you the time. Chardonnay socialists allied with the odd TV or film star you'll find in trendy bodega's all over North London. Kind of place you'd find brother Jeremy and his fellow revolutionary peasants toasting the memory of fallen Hezbollah and IRA 'heroes'.

Jesus this guy overdoes it a bit. 30 seconds would probably be enough to make the point.

Wouldn't it be great if Southgate and this team have distanced all the gammons from watching England? Could go down as one of England's greatest achievements since 66.

...and, if you hadn't already thought of it, me (and I am sure many others with similar views on all of this woke bullshit infecting our football) have always wanted to see England win  another World Cup and they have always let me down.

This time I do not want them to win it for reasons previously stated. Might they go and do it just to spite me and others like me? Which one of us, to quote chief preacher Southgate will be on 'the losing side'?

Gammons? You mean lifelong supporters who have travelled for probably more decades than you have been alive to support the team?

More than theyve had from russians, do you think?

Probably not.

Thats my point. Everybody's knickers are in a twist because Gary Neville is taking blood money when our own people make weapons for Saudi who have an equally dodgy human rights record.

Said it in an earlier post, theres way much more wrong than our footy team booting a ball about in a fridge in the dessert.

If we are going to kick off and take the moral high ground about this then fine, stop dealing with nations who have backward beliefs as well.

That includes China who have full blown death camps.

Oh and stop our Government being backed by bent Russian donors too :)

It's not that as such, it's the hypocrisy. On one hand he's very vocal about being anti thus WC and the issues in the country and then takes money from it.

Although as has also been discussed Beckhams sneaky, less vocal way of taking the money is just as bad, if not worse.

Yes there is hypocrisy about this everywhere and it's OK to be conflicted, saying governments are just as bad doesn't excuse one from the other.

I've still not made my mind up, I'll watch our matches. At least (as has been seen on other threads) it's made more people aware about the depth of the corruption at every level of world football.

The corruption that lead to it being there seems to be the elephant in the room doesnt it.

Why arent these broadcasters mentioning that?

Hasn't that all been sorted though?

As in, all the bent fifa bods have been flushed out, found guilty and booted out

Leaving them with a fresh start

But too late to do anything about Qatar, as in, moving it elsewhere

Many are - you should read some of Philippe Auclair's stuff, his knowledge of football governance is fantastic. The BBC are all over it - there was even a piece on Newsround the other day, plus stuff on You Tube from the BBC.

Today programe is just about to do a piece on it in a moment.

One of the issues is legal, what you can and can't say without getting into legal trouble if nothing has been 'proved', so all you can do is highlight or suggest the dubiousness of awarding the tournment, and commercial stations don't want to get into that trouble, as well as - some of this is very difficult and dense stuff which a lot of football broadcasters - with all the best will in the world - don't know that much about.

There has just been published a reserach breifing by the UK Government which is worth a scan; https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-9534/CBP-9534.pdf pub bore facts like the RAF are providing a unit for air security and maritime support and what teams are taking part in the OneLove Campaign;

Not by a loooong way, they would like you to think that though.

This book, The Fall of the House of FIFA is very thorough on the subject - its bloody dry though, not managed to finish it yet! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fall-House-Fifa-David-Conn/dp/0224100459/ref=asc_df_0224100459/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310868039252&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=593585540459167938&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044978&hvtargid=pla-565117632855&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
