Couldn't find championship stuff but found this from the guardian...

"In the clubs' most recently published accounts, for 2011-12, Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, was paid £2.2m, while Arsenal paid their chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, a gross £2.05m.

Stoke City's highest paid director, who was not named, received £517,000; Wolverhampton Wanderers' and West Bromwich Albion's highest, also unnamed, were paid £1.2m and £1.1m respectively. At Sunderland, the former player and chairman Niall Quinn resigned as a director during the year and received a £2m payoff, bringing his total pay for 2011-12 to £2.4m."

jtuner - Gartside allows manager to sign player on big contract = Gartside is profligate

Gartside refuses to sanction deal = Gartside is interfering and hindering clubs progress

             Cant win can he?

He could win by overseeing a successful football club. The vast majority didn't begrudge him his wages when Sam Allardyce was getting great league positions. Now he is a vastly overpaid bottom half Divison 2 chairman who has appointed 4 shit managers in a row.

£408k to run BWFC is just fine company execs earn their brass to survive at that level as long as he has he is doing something right - yea he gets paid less than the PM but the PM only gets paid a ridiculously low number thanks to nobhead socialists and liberal lefties who are mostly happy to play the martyr in public office then line their pockets on the commercial circuit after

If Clough carries on the way he was next season we could get £4-5 million for him within the year.

Sell Boggers for £2 million

Sell Vela for £1 million

...and get £2 million Compo for Lennon from Everton.

Job done.

Comparing what other clubs pay their chairmen is a bit hard to do.

Some like Gartside are responsible for the running of the club from top to bottom on behalf of the owner.

Others work for owners who do a lot of the chairman jobs like Dave Whelan used to at Wiggin.

Others are the figure head for a board of directors like Gazidiz at Arsenal.

In his early years as chairman PG continued to work as a Managing Director in industry with a significant amount of international travel including annual trips to Australia and China. ED persuaded him to cease that and work fulltime for BWFC. So BWFC went from paying compensation to the firm for taking a percentage of his time to paying him directly at an appropriate rate.

Each club's circumstances are different as has been said above. The bottom line is ED had full confidence in PG and was prepared to pay to get him.
