Used to have a teacher (Bolton born but an Arsenal season ticket holder) who used to love American football but reckoned that only college football was worth watching as it was a purer version of the sport rather than the money rich drafting and franchises.

Not sure if it's true or not, but many pick a college team?

College football is a great event to attend. Seen some cracking matches but my first ever visit to Camp Randall will live long in the memory.

The fifth quarter. Amazing.

One of the joys of the nfl is that money doesn't determine the best team.

The Dallas Cowboys have more money than god and are shitter than shit and have been for a good while.

The college game has more trick plays and daft moments.

The bulk of players in the ncaa will be something other than sports bods in their career So the game isn't as precise as the pros.

Me and the wife watch the Texas Longhorn on Saturday night and the Houston Texans on a Sunday, love them both

JJ Watt is a brilliant watch alone.

Especially when the Texans start getting bored and playing him on offence.

How teams like the Texans manage to go so long with shoddy qb's is strange.

Surely someone like Aaron Murray, Aj McCarron etc has to be worth a try over some of the dross that keeps getting work at Houston, Buffalo etc

As a sort of link between college football and the NFL, interesting to see Manziels progression into the NFL. Looking like he will take the step without a problem.

Certainly enjoyed watching him when he was with the Aggies.

Does seem to be taking to it well, be nice to see the Browns doing well. Hopefully he is over his "personal" issues now.

Thing is for the browns to do well they'd have to stop being the browns. Their hierarchy still reckons Josh McCown is the better QB and will start when healthy.

Was reading an article last night which basically said the same thing! He certainly looked the part last week against the Titans.

This!!! I've always loved the draft pick situation. OK you don't get the "local boy come good" scenario very often but at some point you just know that your team has a shot at glory.

It would never work in other sports but is perfect for NFL

With the salary cap as well teams can't afford to have the best players in every position.

JJ Watt at the Packers or similar would create an unstoppable force.

You occasional get 3/4 top players at a team but the funds won't allow you to keep them together long term. Bell, Brown and Roethlisberger are amongst the best in their positions but other than Ben they arent paid anywhere near the top salary in the positions.

I'll tell you what are rugby union-style irritating - touchbacks. Either kick off from ten yards further back or just let the 'receiving' team start from their own 30 without arsing about with a kick off. Nonsense.

College games always throw up belting kick off returns.

St Louis pyrotechnics set fire to the pitch tonight. No one knew what the fuck was going on.
