This endless speculation spreads more and quicker inside the game too

it certainly would make players think twice about even taking to Bolton/Lennon

Lennon has been quoted in saying that the "actual finances" are just one reason players haven't joined

A strong statement regarding the future and commitment to the playing side of the club can be wishy washy and not tangible at all BUT there's a reasons PR companies make a lot of money and folk spend with them

Those that are saying "it's alright we all know what's going on" so that's good enough and a statement (to any effect) are simply being unbelievably naive

What sort of thing would you expect/want the club to say though? That's what I don't get. Surely you don't mean some sort of Churchill-style rallying call, as someone jokingly mentioned earlier in the thread?

Look at the striker option - Heskey, Madine, Ameobi, Dobbie - this is all we can get based on funds, hardly 20 goals between them.

We got Le Fondre, and £750k would have got him again, stick him in this side with or without the RB issue and we wouldnt be where we are would we?! How can we expect to score goals and compete with the strikers we have.

He signed those 4 this season...surely he could have made one better signing?

He's had funds, he's invested poorly and he's struggling to motivate what he's got.

We look devoid of tactics, discipline and ideas... It was like pass the bomb on Saturday with nobody wanting this ball and it was played at a walking pace.

I'd love to know what people have seen that shows he's a good manger? Not one player has improved while he's been in charge.

Not advocating sacking him btw, just adding a balance to the anti-Gartside/pro-Lennon wank fest.

It's called leadership. Impossible to placate everyone, and it's not wholly about what is said. But at a time of major discontent a quality bit of p.r. could galvanise support and, as has been suggested, help make the club appear more attractive to potential signings and even investors.

Many years ago, when we were in a similar level of shit, our own Sir Nat went on the pitch before the start of a game against Charlton. Their fans gave him grief, and he turned to them, fronted up, and declared "They don't understand....."

Burnden went fuckin ballistic and we won.

It's easy to be cynical, but it can be done. Sir Alex Ferguson (love him or hate him) went round the streets in a car with a megaphone drumming up support for St. Mirren

Not expecting that, but leadership is sadly lacking, and indeed some spirit seemed to disappear with That's passing. It's now time for someone at the club to get it back.

I can't answer without knowing the full situation

Which is EXACTLY THE FUCKING POINT

Is this a FACT or guess work

Ok then, we will leave it at a number of deals have fallen through. Is that enough of a fact for you or do you dispute that too? We are second bottom. (Fact). We are the lowest scorers in the League (fact) and we are heading down (opinion based on aforementioned facts).

Jeez it's not as if Casino, Blixa, Birch from Chorley etc only deal in facts a lot of it is opinion but seems only opinions that matter are Gartside is doing a good job in the circumstances, who are we to question his salary?, the fans are a bunch of fickle ingrates, Eddie would be within his rights to Fuck off its his club and he can do what he wants and the club have nothing new to say so why say anything to the brain dead morons who follow us?

All guess work of course

Yes, but beyond "we're looking for investment" and "Eddie wants the club to be able to live within its own means", down to what level of detail do you want to know the situation?!? Do you want Gartside to give an itemised run down of the finances? Do you want an exact figure on how much Lennon has got to spend each week? Do you want them to name the potential investors they might have been meeting, and what EXACTLY happened/is happening with the negotiations? Are these the types of things people think the club should be revealing?

tbf to jules, he has just answered that

The point usually made is that Gartside is doing the job asked of him by the person who owns the club and the board. That's pretty much it. I don't know how well he's doing, neither do you. We can just presume he's doing shit because the club is doing shit. For all we know, he might have saved us from administration. Or he might be having a shocker and eventually be crucified for it. I've not a clue - and until the club is sold or things pan out to their conclusion we will not know that.

Not having a blind hatred for someone doesn't mean you love their work.

Read things properly Stanley

I said without knowing the full situation I couldn't say how they should approach the statement

I didn't say they should furnish every bit of info

In fact I've even stated it could be spin

Like you are unsuccessfully attempting (like always) to suit your archaic argument

The last thing we need at the moment is spin.

Well, that & spanking more money, which we don't have, on more players that may or may not perform.

A positive statement could galvanise us to pull together and stay up

I'd take that my friend

Whilst I do think that Comms / PR has been nowhere near as good as it could be for a long long time I'm not sure what they could come out and say on this one

If it is as to the point as say "As has been said before, no more money from ED, desperate to sell the club but apart from a few tyre kickers no firm interest" then will there be any benefit in hearing it?

If going into greater detail puts any potential take over in jeopardy then id leave well alone

It wouldn't put anything into jeopardy if handled the right way

Maybe Eddie can do a Leeds and agree to sell the club to the fans. Then a week later tell them he was taking the piss.

I literally can not believe that Bolton supporters are arguing that they shouldn't be told what is going on with OUR club.

Thinking about it, it beggars belief ????????????

It wouldn't put anything into jeopardy if handled the right way

With regards to any potential sale of the club, I'm not sure what benefit it has

How much honesty you want? if you were trying to sell your house would you tell any potential suitors that you've had fuck all firm interest to date? I don't think that would do your chances of getting a good offer and a sale any good at all

I'm not sure how you could handle that in a good way, unless you decided to be dishonest and bullshit the fans by saying a deal is close when it isn't. Either way they're on a hiding to nothing going into detail

If there are / have been no other suitors then that will come up in diligence anyway

But you are seriously saying that the best approach is to shun all requests for interviews and say nothing indefinitely?

Doing so driving a wedge between fans and club. Fans and team. Less people through the doors. Less chance of winning with less support.

How exactly is any of that good for the club or for any business - to current owners or potential future owners?

Edited by jules_darby

They haven't said nothing though have they, they came out on Saturday regarding the newspaper article about administration. Granted it wasn't an hour with Jimmy wagg but it wasn't nothing either

Personally as it stands my heart is telling me a war chest is round the corner, my head is telling me it's not but league 1 might be

I'm not sure I could take it if the board came out and confirmed that just yet

Sometimes I'd rather not know, I assume from the silence thats is pretty bleak and there is fuck all good news worth sharing and nothing in the pipeline

What's the old saying "if you've nothing good to say then don't say anything at all"

Nobody is saying that! And we have been told what is going on anyway - we're looking for investment because Eddie isn't putting any more money in. It's as simple as that! What is it that people think the club might be hiding? Do you really want to see Gartside doing a centre-circle "Let's be avin you!" speech before kick-off?

It would if a prospective purchaser requested anonimty. a significant number of takeovers / buyouts, particularly of private companies have some sort of NDA in place until a deal has been finalised

On saying all that, this rumour IMO was started by a man in a pub

That's why I said handled the right way. Anonymity of potential interested parties is a part of that

If there is nothing to say why would they say anything our situation has not changed in 4 years plus - the only difference is we're bottom we've still got 30 odd games to go - the only statement the club should be giving subject to new investment is to announce Lennons sacking or give him a vote of confidence it's literally the only thing of relevance at this time

Have you considered that 'silence' might be the right way to handle such things?

Yes

I considered it and I disagree wholeheartedly :)
