At least I know you’ve not really got me on ignore 😘. Edited April 26 by Bertie Quote
Spider Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) About 30 posts and at no point does Bolty actually attempt to explain what Trump’s master plan is, or how tanking the markets fits into it. just the usual nicknames and bluster. I suppose him being morbidly obese can cloud any chance of cognitive lucidity. Patriot that he is 🤣 Edited April 26 by Spider Quote

Much better than the assassination nonsense that some clowns call for. IF it's democratic then it's also fine with me. For me the President has too much power as it is, as they are finding out over there at the moment. Quote

You made the comment as if @kent_white would find a load of revelations about why Starmer has a low opinion rating. In reality it’s just a selection of news sources, notorious for printing exaggerated shite with juicy headlines & very little context. Shame people fall for it eh. All politicians go back on promises & change their mind on things. That’s the reality of politics, as much as we’d like to see as little as possible of it. You’ll see far more mistruths & lies coming from characters like Farage, Trump & Johnson than you will Starmer. If Google isn’t telling us like you told us it would, then maybe you could tell us what all these lies are ? Edited April 26 by London Wanderer Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I'm intrigued. Where do folk think ratings come from? Same place as always; the same places that found previous pms had low ratings. The same ratings based on broken promises, unpopular decisions, etc. Didn't stop the vitriol then, but acceptance now. Another "counting" and quantifying effort going on too- like the Israel thread- his lies and bigger than his. Like a primary school kid. Maybe starmer is just better at it; he had voice coaching in lockdown after all, which will have improved his delivery. Quote

BobyBrno Posted April 26 Posted April 26 As I said last night, it’s more the approval rating of the government rather than Starmer. It’s a YouGov poll so I’m guessing it’s accurate. Whether it matters or not is up to each individual.🤷♂️ Quote

Comparing the PM to the leading opposition & another leader is behaving like a primary school kid… I’ve heard it all now 😂 Starmer’s ratings have never been high. His party was elected on low ratings. But yes, if they break promises & don’t do something about illegal immigration (for example), then they’ll suffer in the next election. Thats a little different to saying Starmer is telling a lot of lies. Reform may also suffer if they continue to ignore & say dubious things about topics like climate change. Can work both ways. I didn’t even make my comments to defend Starmer. I was just interested in RWs method of discussion. Kent’s question got two laughing emojis, then when an invite to actually discuss something was made - he was told to just go look at Google. There’s your primary school level discussion skills mate 😄 Quote

Bertie Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) I suppose it’s inevitable (that politicians lie). Suspect it’s part of their DNA and character types in pursuit of their ultimate goal of power, often at any cost. Frustrating as erodes public trust in all of them. I do think Starmer whilst not perfect is less guilty than most, and on the whole seems committed to public service (accepting we can all agree/disagree with some/all of his policies). Still early days I guess. I was gutted when Boris descended into a pathological liar at the end trying to save his skin - felt he could have done great things for the country. I’m biased of course, but back on topic the orange guy really is different gravy when it comes to blatant lies…. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_or_misleading_statements_by_Donald_Trump Edited April 26 by Bertie Quote
Popular Post kent_white Posted April 26 Popular Post Posted April 26 I'm not even sure that I'd a free that they ALL lie. There are so many variables and unknowns in politics - it's not the kind of profession where you can be 100% inflexible all the time. There too much happening over which you've got no control. Anybody who has managed people will understand this - god knows how you'd ever manage it having a country. So you can have a strategy - and you might be forced to adapt that strategy based on current events. I'm not sure that you could call that lying though. And even given all that - I'm not sure what the lie is that he's supposed to have told which have led to such a significant drop in opinion poll ratings. Granted the winter fuel payments thing didn't play out well - but on the grand scheme of government skullduggery it seems right down the list for me. I genuinely think we might just have turned into a nation of absolute fannies. Quote

I genuinely think we might just have turned into a nation of absolute fannies. Like many western democracies we've turned into a nation who likes to score points on social media. You are totally right about his 'lies' the only people he has really pissed off is the more militant left of his own party - which if you think about it is something various leaders of the Conservatives failed to do by mismanaging their more fringe members. The country isn't in the best shape currently, but I'm glad we have a competent PM who is focused on trying to get us out of this mess rather than infighting within his own party for his own gain. Anyway, it's the locals coming up - I've told the local party I will be voting Lib Dem here as he's a brilliant and hard working local councillor who is visible and really is the heart of the village from sorting out bin collections when they don't happen to community litter picking and then helping some of the older residents when they need support.
