What a bizarre take from the situation.

Always like reading Eddie's stuff as it's thoughtful, seemingly informed etc.

Then this- a bizarre stance of conspiracy theory character.

An attack on the character of a young player, who is respected by the manager.

Doesn't have to be everyone's favourite, but give me a team of such committed blokes over some of the players we've had in recent times.

I mean, it was slightly tongue in cheek but clearly wasn’t read as such.

The 2 points are factual though, we didn’t cash in £1m for our 5th choice centre mid and we have now upped his wages. At no point did I suggest it was GT that demanded a higher wage, I highly doubt it was and was more us rewarding loyalty (and probably putting some clever clauses in there that we’ll never hear about).

I’ve not made any secret of the fact that I don’t really rate him, and clearly I think that we could have used £1m better on the squad than have him sitting on our bench (or the additional wages on a better player) but I don’t hold it against the lad at all. I hope he carries on improving and becomes a mainstay of a successful Bolton team - I just don’t think he has any of the natural attributes to do so and would rather have £1m for him than worry about losing Santos or Charles instead.

As for the Twitter pile on for people lauding him as “our future captain” etc etc - they can get to fuck, it’s another over reaction from a load of sheep that didn’t particularly rate him last week. Making a decision doesn’t make you a better player.

To be fair, if someone asked me to move to another job and take a massive pay cut, I’d say “thanks but no thanks”.

Especially when you’re very much from the north, being asked to uproot your family to London and play for a club that’s a step down.

Loyalty is rare in life and even rarer in football.

He’s been on the “journey” from Day One.

Well done GT.

Fully deserved improved contract.

I honestly believe he’s better than most do too.

Lets wait and see anyway.

It's difficult to assess the merits of an extended improved deal until you know how much he's now getting paid and how that stacks up against others.

He was here when Evatt arrived but would have been on peanuts at the time.

He got a new contract in December which will have reflected his place within the squad. Based on how often he is starting there has been no material change in his squad status from December until now - he had 3 years left on that deal. The only reasoning for a new deal is: i) more money as a thank you for not going (although we accepted the bid so can’t have been too disappointed if he did at that price); or ii) there are now clauses in the new one which weren’t in the last - potentially minimum fee release or having to accept an offer from a Prem club etc.

Were two league games in, in which he came off the bench. Hardly enough to say no material change to his position.

He did start in the cup, which also doesn't signify anything either way.

What has changed are players having left, whilst he is still here, and clearly as he is rated by the management, he may well be about to play more.

If we applied the same rationale to others, then Maghoma, Forrester et al would be no use neither, as they haven’t started.

All our players are going to do their bit as the season progresses.

Should Toby Brittan really be taking pictures there ... let alone posting them ?

I don't think it matters

It's not exactly a private area, he's sat there for all to see

I also don't think that's Toby Brittan
