We need quality. I have not seen that so far. I am seeing numbers. Our squad is better on numbers, not quality match winners ie Trafford and Bradley.

FFS give them time to settle in. We didn't win every game Trafford and Bradley played.

No surprises here.

DECLAN John and Kieran Sadlier have been told they can leave Wanderers before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.

Neither player has featured under Ian Evatt this season, although John was an unused substitute in the Carabao Cup victory against Barrow earlier this month.

Wanderers are in the market for a goalkeeper after back-up Joel Coleman picked up a calf injury in Tuesday night’s defeat to Championship Middlesbrough but are playing down the potential for further signings at the present time.

Evatt admitted, however, that outgoing deals are a strong possibility before the deadline, with John and Sadlier seemingly at the front of the queue.

“There’s no point me sitting here and saying they are not available for transfer, they absolutely are, but again it is their decision,” he told The Bolton News. “We are not going to force anyone out of the door.

I assumed we HAD signed numerous keepers, wing backs, forwards, midfielders. Or did I miss something?

You didn't miss anything. Not sure where this bollocks has come from that we haven't signed anyone in this window?

Nathan Baxter
Joel Coleman
Josh Dacres-Cogley
Dan Nlundulu
Will Forrester
Carlos Mendes Gomes
Paris Maghoma
Zac Ashworth

Contract extensions for Charles and Thomason

Training Ground improvements

Stadium updgrades incoming

It seems the Wigan game really fucked with peoples' heads. Understandable to a certain extent, but not to the point of re-writing reality.

What he means is we didn't sign Baccus

Bizarre signing was sadlier

I think these signings only appear this way in retrospect.

Sadlier and Jermome fall into this category.

Said before about Jerome, at the time we only had two forwards, we were after a big, strong, experienced forward, he was available playing a league above, with good pedigree and was valued by the club he was leaving.

While a different type of player, Sadlier was available in January, had played well in this division previously, it looked like he had the qualities and attributes we were after. At the time we were experimenting with formations.

Saddlier’s downfall was two-fold for me. One we started having success with 3-5-2 and he didn’t fit this system well. And two, and more importantly, he hasn’t turned out to be the top end league one quality we need to get out of this division. It doesn’t even look like Orient wanted him back.

When you have the budget we have and you are looking to strengthen, sometimes with free transfers, there’s a difference between they haven’t worked out and “ it was a bizarre signing” or “I don’t understand that signing”

It came from the shit stirring depths of a pedantic mind that ignored the fact that I obviously meant "not signing anyone ELSE" this window.

That involved

  • Taking the comment completely out of the context of the ongoing discussion
  • Completely ignoring the plethora of previous posts in which all the signings made to date were discussed which is in itself clear evidence that I was aware of all the signings previously made in this window
  • Being a dick

Yes probably more I don’t get the signing tbh, bags of L1 experience and not a bad player but IE didn’t know where to slot him in

You're obviously obsessed with Baccus.

He isn't coming. Just let it go.

Do you want me to sing the song for you? :)

This apparent policy of "not forcing anyone out of the door" may have some benefit in terms of projecting the idea that BWFC looks after the playing staff and may therefore be a positive aspect in attracting new signings, but if you've got players collecting a wage whilst they're sitting out their contracts - and losing out on the potential  income from their sale it makes little sense financially.

Reckon we could get at least half a million for Decberto and  Sads instead of them costing us £8400 (source) a week for the next 42 weeks - that's £352k we'll be pissing away.

End of the day if the player doesn't want to leave they don't have to and there is nothing the club can do so there's no point potentially affecting player and squad morale by trying to push people out the door. You never know if they end up staying we might need them to contribute at some point.

Well there’s different ways to skin a cat.

I’d say that’s the nicest thing he could have said while actually, in reality, forcing them into a decision to at least try to manoeuvre a move.

It’s in no-ones interest, even BWFCs, who ideally would like them off our books, to come out and say they are not welcome and we don’t want them here, moping about taking up valuable squad places.

Surely the players and their agents, based on the fact they haven’t been anyway near any squad recently know that they no longer have a future here and that a move away would suit all parties.

True. I'd have thought they'd want regular football even at a lower level if necessary so they must have some incentive to leave if they're not getting starts with us. And behind the scenes, the club may well be trying to help them move on given that it's a chunk of cash and a couple of squad slots at stake.

Maybe you should've included the word "else" then.

John valued at £450k and Sadlier £250k according to Transfermarkt.

And if Transfermarkt says that it must be true :)

Although personally I believe they're worth at least "undisclosed fee".

The only position that really could do with another body is RWB

We went after cogley and Wilson, the latter didn't come off and no one else has come in

Jones can cover there but would rather he didn't

I'm not overly impressed with our quota of forwards but doubt anyone is leaving or coming in

Be good if we could offload John and Sadlier as would rather they didn't get paid for not even being on the bench, but if no one comes in for them not much we can do

I agree on Jerome, I have no problem with the signing in that he was free, does a job when required, and is probably happy to be a bit-part player.  If we'd paid a fee and he had a longer contract (like other forwards) I'd be more puzzled, but he's short term, is a stand in and seems to be a good squad man/character, not sure what the problem is.

On Sadlier, not turning out to be top end L1 quality, that's a measure that doesn't seem to be applied to other signings.  Eg Williams, Dan and Vic.  Are they top quality?  Its hard to make a case that they are, but they were bought and get picked regardless.  Its unrealistic to have 15 or 16 players who are top quality, there will be some who are very "mid table" and it would seem Sadlier's problem is as you say not fitting into the system, more than not having the ability, as with Dapo.

(Apparently the Orient manager said he'd like to have him back but can't match his salary).

You say does a job when required regarding Jerome I’m struggling with that bit tbh

Ultimately we don't know what the finances are looking like although I seem to remember we were still losing money last time we submitted a return so given that we can't go crazy in the transfer market we haven't done bad overall and we seem to be building up the club - including the stadium and infrastructure - bit by bit. Brings me back to IE having faith in the current squad to improve enough to get us promoted - but I think we all recognise there are improvements to be made. If we don't sign anyone ELSE (sic) in this window we just have to hope that everybody comes good.

Sadlier does not play because he is not good enough. Little flashes but when he started was awful.

John just does not look interested.

Strange we won't force players out but fans who are critical get threatened with bans.

Had a dream last night that we signed someone from United for £11m

Also had a dream I had genital warts though so, make of that what you will

I don't even know you but can confidently say that the latter is much more likely
