Whitesince63
So that’s two more players gone in Sads and Declan and nowt coming in despite the weaknesses we know we have. What happened to this talk of money being available for our push to the automatics? Yes we’ve paid for Dan, Forrester and Gomez but seriously, is that it? Big let down for me after good ST sales, increased gates and the £4.5m from the bond some of which was to be used for transfers. So basically we’ve paid for everything whilst the owners keep their money in their bank accounts? Not a happy bunny tonight and for the first time beginning to have doubts in those running the club. Marc505
Talksport doing its usual thing of begging people to call in, saying he switchboard is hot, but then either going to a break or going over and over the same headlines. Probably take about 3 calls an hour! Pile o shit.
Marc505
This squad should and will be plenty good enough to keep us in the high play off positions at least until the next transfer window.

I guess if his contract is cancelled - hopefully without compen - he will get opportunities. John to Salford sounds like desperation. So much pressure is going to land on the remaining squad. Sadlier will get fixed up within a week if his wage demands are reasonable, either in L1/2 or in Scotland (would do well at SPL level). Decent move for John, game time, local so no disruption, will do well for them in L2

Neither Sadlier or John were going to get game time rightly or wrongly so no loss in practical terms , I think you are overestimating the amount of cash BWFC actually have at their disposal & perhaps that is a popular notion amongst some of our fans.Wether or not what limited funds we own have been invested wisely is another matter. The cheap shot from you is ‘they’ kept their money .Do you honestly think football at this level is a money making venture ? Give your head a wobble. Wanderlust
We've signed players that the management team have faith in and for sure they haven't set the place on fire just yet but they all seem to be athletic with decent engines so at least they have the potential to come good. Making signings is comforting, but ultimately our budget is what it is, we could debate where and when it should be spent and yet we are left with the simple fact that the manager has all the information that we don't and therefore knows best. Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted September 2, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted September 2, 2023 Good to see the over reactions in full swing. We have players just coming back from injury, others playing catch up with match fitness and others being blended into the squad slowly. Fwiw, I don't think we're anything like a fully gelled squad as yet. I can even see positional tweaks yet too as Evatt assesses best positions for players. We'll be alright. I fully accept that neither Sads nor John would be playing but my point is that it frees up two places and two wages. I’m not trying to overestimate the money FV have to spend either, I accept that they need to run the club sustainably but I don’t think it’s a cheap shot to point out that the money they’ve used so far seems to have been entirely supporter contributed when one could have expected a little more from their own wealth if their intention is automatic promotion. Whilst I believe our squad is amongst the best in L1 I think pretty much everyone can see there are still critical areas that need improving and I find it disappointing that these haven’t been addressed. Maybe the right players at the right price weren’t available and Ian couldn’t strengthen as he would have liked? We’ll find out over the next few months starting today against Derby if the squad is strong enough to be where we all want it to be. As I say I believe we do have a good squad but have maybe missed an opportunity yesterday to make it even better.

I agree there are over reactions, however, last season we finished in play offs and scored only 62 goals, promoted teams scored 80 or over , as did Barnsley. We were told that this season we were pushing on but we have the same 5 forwards as last year (minus Kerchunga). I agree that the squad has not yet gelled and hopefully more to come from CMG and Magohome. We are just in September and already we have seen Toal, Rico and GJ missing games. I am a million miles off slitting my wrists but this transfer window has been a disappointment. Nobody in on loan ? Teams at this level are usually lifted by bringing in that extra quality, we were last year. Got to balance all the above with the caveat that ultimately the books have to balance or at least have manageable losses but that was hardly the message. I do have faith in IE and FV but with that in mind if they say we are going to press on would have expected more quality additions to the squad. tomski
Not sure what I make of our business so far. Gonna stick to 10 games and decide. Ive found it odd we’ve not tapped in on the loans after last years success. If it’s done purposely by Evatt I actually admire him for it as long term it will bite us on the bum at some point like it did with Coyle as it becomes unsustainable. Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted September 2, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted September 2, 2023 Young squads can often improve without signings, you have to expect more from the younger players who are developing physically and gaining experience all the time. You have to expect more from the January signings now they've had time to settle. I also don't think it's a co-incidence Dan is usually paired with Jerome. I reckon Jerome is the on field mentor to him, hopefully his wisdom pays off sooner rather than later. I know I'm an optimist but I really do feel we have a good enough squad to get up. It wouldn't survive but it has to be easier attracting championship players either as a top 3/4 side in January or next summer if we do go up

But what is his role? unless he really kicks in and shocks everyone he will just be used as a sub as Charles, vic & bod will start before him said it before you sign someone permanently after a successful loan period he showed very little so to pay a fee on a 3 year deal is crazy imo
Whitesince63
I think we can all see abilities in Dan, it’s just that it’s going to be a gamble on whether he delivers on them. Clearly IE believes he can or he wouldn’t have paid good money for him but I’m not expecting anything much from him this year other than gaining experience and gradual improvement. If he can do that then at the end of the 3 years his signing could pay off handsomely but if not it’s been a waste but since we can’t afford ready made stars our only other option is to try to build them?
