Seems plausible to me. Why wouldn't you want to go to places like Shrewsbury and Cambridge instead of being in the squad for European games?

In the squad today

Not sure what the point in sending him out on loan again would be

I'm not sure if he picked up a career ending injury not long after leaving us , or I might be getting confused with Laville

Just checked he did finish not long after us… also picked up premier league winners medal at Leeds.

Don't think Matr Clarke played too many games after us either. Did he?

Played 38 games for Crystal Palace then retired due to injury.

I could virtually give a match report on most home games in the 80s/early 90s, and plenty away, but I could hardly name a player from a given season since turn of century.  I can name players from eras, but definitely wouldn't be able to pin games or players names to a particular year or even within 2 or 3 years.  Just a blur of merged memories last 20 years.  81-82 clear as a whistle, who played, the best wins etc.

And Dusan Nikolic was class in 80-81, watched him from the Embankment, one of the reasons I enjoyed going despite us being bottom half of league following relegation.  (Then got my 1st S/T, moved to Burnden Paddock so that I could join in the atmosphere!).

As good a place as any - Conor Carty and Luke Mathison both signed contract extensions. They obviously rate them for the longer term

I'm happy with that. They both have potential.

Or we're gearing up for another year in league 1 :D

I can remember that season as well, we were mainly crap but had some good wins, beat West Ham, beat Newcastle but iirc we only won 1 away and think it was Cambridge near very end of the season.

Good draw away at Blackburn to scupper their promotion hopes as well i remember.

Yes 4-0 v Newcastle.  WHU was 1-1, good game, they won the league by a mile, with Trevor Brooking etc.  6-1 v Cambridge was a highlight, hat-trick from Kidd.

Also drew 3-3 at Forest in FAC and lost replay 1-0 in front of nearly 23k, 3 times our normal crowd, and no reduced prices for any cup games in those days.

I don't think we hardly conceded a goal in his loan spell i.i.r.c , superb player

Wow! I’m just trying to work out if we did or didn’t concede many.

True. But it was only 6 league games (I was surprised to read).

Yes  I don't think there were many full season loans back then in general , I'm trying to think if Taylor , Salako and Carr were January loans in 1998.

Just checked 1 of my old programmes,  he came in mid November when we were in some real patchy form .

Ipswich ( A) W 1-0

Stockport (A) W 1-0

Bury (H) W 4-0

Wolves (A) D 1-1

Tranmere (A) D 1-1

Portsmouth (H) W 3-1
