I'm in the don't want him to leave right now camp, as things are going great and we have a real chance of going up.

But completely accept that if someone offers £5m, he's gone.

No way club can turn that down, nor would I expect them to.

He knows more than me as I'd never heard of Macaulay Longstaff till I read that tweet

Who do you reckon would be a decent replacement if we cashed in?

Longstaff…

It could quite easily have been an alternative name for Lord Flashheart of Black Adder fame.

May I ask whats the system he normally fits?

Can't profess to have watched him religiously but at Morecambe during their League 2 promotion he played wide left in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 and Fleetwood last year was a bit more free role but lined up predominantly in either wide area of a 4-2-3-1.

So he's mostly a winger and we don't play them, much like Dapo.

Are we talking about Mendes Gomes?

My thoughts were that he was signed to be the interchangeable with Dion, energy and harrying upfront with an eye for goal or as a 10.

I thought it would be Charles and one of JDB/Vic replaced on the hour or so by Mendes Gomes for Charles and one of JDB/Vic/Dan for JDB/Vic.

Would that be totally beyond reasonable?

I'm sure he's capable of occupying any of those roles.

I was just pointing out that for the majority of his career and where he's had the most success it seems, is in the wide areas. Clearly quite good at football in general though, so I can see him being employed either as a front man or a ball carrying #10 and do a job, he'd just maybe being shoehorned somewhat.

You didn’t embolden the word ‘arguably’ that I wrote before ‘our most important position’. Of course all are important, but with the way we attack and how the whole side is set up to get to the byline, I’d be surprised if Evatt would be keen on relying on a player that was signed for our B team and was on the bench against Burton for the first time in 15 games in the league.

I hope this doesn’t come across as anything against Matheson, he’s clearly a talent from his history and I very much hope he finds that with us and becomes a valuable member of the team, but I don’t reckon Evatt will be too comfortable with him being our RWB cover now that Jones has gone - that was unforeseen and I’d imagine it’s changed Evatt’s plans slightly.

I might be completely wrong, just think it’s an interesting discussion considering how things have changed with Jones suddenly getting that call up.

An interesting position.

For me, there is little point in having back up players if you don't  believe they're capable of stepping in as cover.

Matheson may not have been on the bench, but there only so many places available. He will obviously fill that with his "first team squad" players. Now that one or two aren't available the next cab on the rank comes in.

Remember, he isn't being selecteed to play as a replacement for Jones, but as cover for Dacres- Cogley- a position that Jones, or even Williams would normally switch to if needed.

So it's not a matter of playing all the games that Jones is away for, but any that the regular wing back isn't available for.

I have no worries whatsoever that he could provide that cover if required, and I'm not sure that IE would see it as a priority.

We now have our only fit centre halves playing, and although Iredale's injury isn't bad, that maybe an area he would be more concerned about.

I Reckon £750k is closer to what we’d accept than £5m

I don't, especially at this moment.

Those mysterious investors who have been wanging in several million will be looking at things at the moment and seeing a potential boon for themselves with promotion.

Sell him cheap, and not be able to get in a replacement, and that is at risk.

Nor do we actually need the money urgently.

No chance, to risk promotion by selling your best striker for anything like 750k would be utterly stupid.

Not what I said though was it. I reckon the fee we would sell for is closer to 750k than 5m. No one is paying that sadly

What fee do you reckon we would accept? I'd be amazed if it was anything less than 3M.

That's anything up to 2.875M. Anything over 2M would be strongly considered imo
