Let’s hope he is here come feb but no one is bidding £5m. We can’t/won’t command those fees I'm sorry, I've not a clue what you're referring to in your first sentence. I don't expect to be offered 5m for Dion neither- never said I did, but no way would we accept such a small amount as you seem to think. That bit doesn't make sense. We accepted a bid of less than a mill for George from Bristol City who had just trousered £24m for what would of been his predecessor. Not a master stroke for me. If he hadn't shown himself to be such a great player, then maybe. He has and shown commitment, is pivotal and wouldn't now be sold for that amount. An absolute master stroke to show equal commitment to him, and to the team as a whole.

Obviously it should If we're negotiating with a club who'd received such a large figure for the player they believe Thomason was capable of replacing, I'd be expecting us to up our valuation as well

As I said before, there are other factors at play too- those investors and the relationship with FV. We don't know what they requested (besides shares) when investing; but if I had put £5m or so into a club, and half way through the season could see the potential for that to investment to increase significantly in around 4 months, I'd be questioning the wisdom of possibly accepting (your) £4m bid and having to spend plenty of it to get someone you'd need to hit the ground running to maintain that possibility/probability of promotion. Like we've both said, we don't need to sell, as we didn't with Thomason. Gives us a stronger hand.
Members Lt. Aldo Raine
I'd very much prefer Charles to stay but if he left I'd be confident of us finding a good enough replacement with £4M

However the risk risk associated with a new player having to be immediately successful is high. Could cost us that promotion this season. Which could lose us more players too. Which would wipe out any profit from the deal. if we were mid-table, and needing to trade up, then its a different scenario.

We play a very clear system and have a settled squad of players who understand both each other and the patterns of play Evatt's drilled into them over the course of a couple of seasons I think the possibility of his replacement coming in and hitting the ground running is pretty good

If no reason to sell then surely they wanted too or you just say no? Evatt has always said if an offer met our valuation, then it would be put to the player. I don't think that means the club would necessarily want to sell, but that they feel it's an offer they can work with. It is also respectful to a player; especially if it's an opportunity at a higher level. We also have to remember that if a player was denied the opportunity he may spit his dummy out. At least this way; we respected the player and he showed respect back and said no thanks. If he'd chosen to take the opportunity, then so be it, we would have had the money. nantwichwhite
Evatt seems to be chilled about it. He knows all players have a price. I trust this lot to make the right decisions. What they have done thus far is nothing short of a miracle. We were on our arses and they have picked us up and we are heading for the Championship.
