FWIW I think he’ll take some time away then decide to give it another go. But if it doesn’t start well can see him out the door early on.

That's the worst scenario for me.  Either we give Evatt the season, with his players and his system and his captain, or we give someone else the summer and the season to make it work.

Someone taking over in October after a bad start to the season, with a squad of 25 of IEs players set up to play with wingbacks and no wingers, would be virtually writing the season off in terms of top 2.

This isn't a call for him to go - but if he stays, its for the majority of the season just like it was this year, nobody started off in August saying if we don't start well he's out the door.

If he starts it'd be on the basis that he'd get at least till Xmas, a fair crack but still enough time (20+ games) for a new man to put enough of a run together to put us in the mix, assuming at that point we're in mid table.

Because of how totally wedded to a playing style he's been, our recruitment totally geared to it, and so little room contractually for radical squad surgery, I'm sadly not seeing us kicking off in 80-odd days playing 4-3-3 or something like that.

All I'm hoping we might see is a physical enforcer at the base of midfield with Sheehan freed up to play in the pockets behind the front two, and maybe the return of Johnston, allowing Toal to go back on right CB and Jones / Dacres Cogley to scrap it out for RWB. That might be a start, still a few more areas of weakness to address

God's fault 😃 Fair enough, move on he was never going to be turning out for us again in L1

Is it your mate in the BWFC song writing department?

He's gonna have a busy summer if Evatt leaves too

Yeah.

In truth I'd be happy if I never heard it again.

What was the reason he didn’t sign for us in the end? Was it wage demands?

more than likely

250k fee was agreed

he wanted to come

“The move didn’t really go too smoothly and I’ve learned from situations in the past when things go smoothly that’s where you’re meant to be and vice versa.

“Nothing against Bolton at all, but I’ve learned when a team really wants you they’ll do most things to make it happen.

Yes, but very odd as he was on lthree parts of f'call at St. Mirren.

Pretty sure the Australian manager got involved too.

Strange move but I don’t think his attitude would suit here and if he has to fly half way round the world for Internationals I’d give him a miss on that too.

So that's Iredale & Jones getting their bags packed. Maybe why the Rivaldo deal fell through & why we never even tried for Messi.

No-one, really, has a clue about Baccus. Paid very little for years in Paisley. Offered a considerable rise to come here but then got Billy-big-bollocks & turned it down. Started 14 games in the pub league last season & now signed for Mansfield.

It's possible we've fckd up, it's possible we dodged a bullet & it's probable he'll fade into the background, scoring 4 goals all next season, all against us.

Rumours Rangers are in for Charles

Interesting one this. Still got a couple years on his contract so not like there’s a desperate need to sell.

It’d need a healthy offer to let him go.

£1m or more and I think we'd listen to offers IMO
It's 3 times what we paid for him, so a moneyball success.

He'll be 29 before Christmas and if Rangers come in and Watford/Stoke renew their interest, we might well get a chunk more than £1m

He's going to be 29 in a few months, this summer is probably last chance to get a real decent fee for him thanks to the new extension he signed last season. Back to back 20 goal seasons in all comps, good healthy profit reinvested in a younger striker.

Can’t disagree with that. Just hope we’d be able to replace with someone quality. Would only leave us with Collins, Vic and Dan. And at this moment in time, I’d rather have a current day Jardel than Dan.

Id agree but replacing his goals for a million is far from guaranteed

Really good point and why I think we’ll listen to offers.

I think Santos is case in point where he’s had his peak value and now due to only having a year left of his contract and us not going up I think we’ll only get less and less for him. Part of the model is to cash in when we can get top value and I think Charles is about at that point - as Casino says, can you replace his goals with a younger version. Personally I think you can (how many penalties in the 20?) but I also wouldn’t mind seeing a full season of a Collins / Charles front line.
