Move on, think we will have someone better lined up. I hope so, as we've let 2 go without apparently trying for either. Can't help feeling we need someone to challenge Williams. Maybe there is a b-team player showing promise.

Don’t think any B team players look like stepping up, I expect an experienced left wing back coming in or a prem loan signing and it would’nt suprise me if Williams was touted for sale. Can't see that, once fit, he was back to first choice last season. That would potentially require 2 in as well. A more typical left back, may allow Williams to play further forward, which I understand he used to do, thus allowing for flexibility of formation. That, of course, would be a a change of approach by Evatt.
Members Lt. Aldo Raine
Considering it's such an important position in Evattball, I've often found it odd that we've never really stocked up on bonafide wing-backs

Moderators Casino Posted June 26 Moderators Share Posted June 26 I think folk arent getting the B team Its not the old 'reserves' The aging pro and prospects just not quite first team ready That group are now 'first team squad' Our B team is low level cast offs, on slightly more than min wage They are generally miles off first team ready and almost cettainly never will be Mathieson is miles in front of most recruits

There's never been any point. I'd sack the whole youth set up. It's a complete waste of money. (Unless you face financial oblivion and they are the only players left obviously)

Me neither, tbh If we pick up some kid from united hes not going in our B team B team might be 1 in a 1000 tackle

Whatever guise it is in, it's the step before the first team squad Intended to bring talent through- either for the first team or for selling on. I reckon fans understand the concept. If however neither is happening then it does need looking at again. I think Matheison was OK in his appearances last season, and may yet prove worthwhile. Members Lt. Aldo Raine
The B Team/youth set up will take years to get right, but there are small signs it's beginning to improve We used to send our B Team prospects on loans to the Conference North but we're gradually beginning to send a couple out at a higher standard Both Khumbeni and Carty were sent on loan to League Two last season, and Khumbeni especially might have a role to play in the first team this season Then we build on that
tomski
For me the B team is spot on and as long as we use to find that released 16+ from a bigger set up then it will do for me. If that is not the agenda then I’m not sure what it’s for. Id scrap the academy for what it’s worth as the system now tips too far in advance of the bigger clubs

At our level we'll be best served by snaffling players released by the very big clubs & there's enough of them around us.

The rules are so poor now that we’d lose a star to a bigger club now for peanuts. Complete waste of time

We do now anyway. If we get a superstar they go to the next level of clubs. We get a modest training fee that doesn’t cover costs. Picking up the released ones at 16 is a model that Wigan have been ahead of us for years on. Think it has to be our way forward.

But you need an academy to attract these kids, if we don’t have a decent academy set up the kids released at 16 are going elsewhere if we don’t have an academy, prime example would be Kevin Nolan. Academy or B team.. if we have one or the other it has to be academy. Edited June 27 by Mounts Kipper

Kevin Nolan was 25 years ago (bangers) Times have changed. If we get another Nolan who shows promise he’s off for next to nothing. Its really not worth it in my opinion. As stated it’s the 16 year olds up we should be chasing from released clubs. Quickly can be on pro terms and protected as an asset. Cut throat and objective yes. Sensible as well though. If a 16 year old leaves one of the big clubs he ain’t coming Bolton if we don’t have an academy. Blackburn and Burnley have good academies they’ll go there we miss out. That’s my point.
