paulhanley
I would be surprised if Arfield started many games. He's therefore not the full time "midfield bastard" many of us are on about. It would be great to have his experience in the last 20-25 mins of games especially when we need to tighten things up when ahead. I can see why folk are saying he's there to make up for the loss of experience with Jerome leaving the squad. In terms of being worldly wise though (and purely in terms of midfield) he's perhaps a belated replacement for Kieran Lee.

I totally get your point re last 20 odd minutes, and Jerome played that role well on a few occasions last season, but I can hardly think of any game we failed to win when ahead in the 2nd half. Our main problem is breaking down opponents when we are losing, especially away. The emphasis has to be on not going behind in the first place as well as having a bit more about us to equalise when necessary. I know this is easier said that done! But I feel like Arfield's influence would be relatively minimal if it was mainly as a sub coming on when the result is all but decided. We've brought in a number of new lads; until they've played a bit, how can we assess their input and effect on the squad and performances? Plus more irons in the fire according to Evatt. Worrying about signings, what other teams are doing etc is just going to fuck the head up. Nowt we can do.
