Danny Armstrong pivotal in KIllie pumping Barrow 5 nil today

The interesting thing is that Armstrong was actually playing in this warm up game as Killie are playing tomorrow in the Europa League - the tournament that McInnes said he wanted to keep his best players for.

I may be clutching at straws but could it be a sign that Armstrong is moving?

Iles suggested on his podcast the club weren't exactly delighted the news got out.

Fair enough, thought the articles were released with the club's blessing

Ashworth and Ogbeta gone leaves us just Williams on the left so Def feels short to me

Isn't Williams out till December or something?

We've only got Iredale for the first few months and IE never plays him at LWB if there's an alternative.

I'm hoping we switch formation so we don't need a rwb or lwb.

Unless of course we bring two loan players that can actually play these two positions and improve the team which I doubt we'll do.

433 for me.

Probably get rid of Baxter if he won't sign a contract extension. Think it expires next year. We don't need 3 GK's. No idea how good or bad Southwood is.

Iredale, Williams LB

Cogley, Jones, Matheson RB

CB ... Choice of Santos, Johnston (can fill in at LB), Toal, Forino, Forrester ... Maybe sell one?

MID ... Choice of Dempsey, Lolos, Thomason, Sheehan, Morley, Arfield.

RW/LW Collins, CMG. This position would also get the best out of Dan imo.

CF ... Charles and Vic.

I'm happy with what we have. When fit Johnston will be like a new signing having not played last year. Just need a couple of LW/RW ... God miss Halfalion

Barrow game was on Friday and the European game is on Thursday.

It’s possible that with clubs higher up the food chain interested in the same players we are that we don’t get any of them so what then? Do we look for secondary, probably not quite as good signings or go with what we have and plan for January? If Paris’s injury hasn’t cleared up it’s possible he won’t move at all this window so maybe we could get him then?

Evatt and markham have a list of players for each position and will move down to the next one on that list. We need better than Paris and perhaps we’ve got his replacement in the building, CMG/Lolas.

Iles quoting Evatt:

“We have gone from dealing with free transfers and loans, primarily, to trying to buy people’s best players. And, unsurprisingly, they want to hang on to them.

“We have to play the long game. It isn’t what we have been used to because normally we have the squad in place for the start of pre-season, but maybe this is another part of our evolution. I can promise we are working very hard to bring the right ones in.

“We know who we are targeting and we’re working all the time to get things done but there are anomalies, like some of the players are involved in European qualification. Teams want to hang on to their better players to try and get them that bit further into the competition they are in.*

“It is tough playing the waiting game. If we didn’t have the injuries we do right now then we would still be able to field two very competitive teams and it would all feel a bit easier.

*That'll be Armstrong then. Maybe  others involved in Europe seeing as he said "some" - or maybe that's just lazy English.

Preferably not. No point in hoping for players who I know would improve us and not getting them.

God knows we could have done with Baccus in our powder puff midfield at times last season. He'll be playing against us this year FFS.

Plenty of players get a tour of the ground! It doesn't mean they'll be signing. He tried to leverage Bolton's interest into another move higher up the food chain. Really not the type of character we need or needed! It backfired on him

I thought he wanted to sign but felt the offer he got was shit and was upset that we weren't going all out to sign him, so stayed

Read something over here about him feeling that we didn't try hard enough or respect him or something like that (can't be bothered trying to find the article), he came across as a bit of a bell end tbh. Plus the Australian manager insisted he wouldn't pick people playing in league 1, until he did, won't have helped. I have watched a couple of the Australian games he's played in, didn't look like we missed out on much.

I really liked the sound of him at the time and given we targeted him presumed he was just what we need in midfield

Disappointed at the time but in hindsight with him being injured a bit and signing then for Mansfield am not arsed

If we miss out on all our main targets then a team who came third only after blowing the run in would have to get on with it woth only the 4 new entrants to date plus Johnston back.

We lost a competent, if injury prone, Jon Dadi & let Cameron go.

So, on paper, we should still be up there. ... & there must be a dozen good loans we'd be interested in.

Kind of! There was an element of him dragging it out whilst waiting for other offers (nothing wrong with that). And him negotiating a better deal (also nothing wrong with that). There comes a point though where he has to make a decision.

The one thing our club does is ensure they have the right characters in the squad (who was the last player you can remember causing a fuss / demanding a move? I can't recall any). Baccus wasn't the right character and everyone went their separate ways.

Only he knows, but given his time again I'm pretty sure he'd have accepted Bolton's offer last season.

There'll be one, possibly two, high quality (Premier League) loans in but possibly not until mid to late August. One likely to be a LWB!

...and, yes, we have a very strong squad already. Forino, in particular, will be a massive addition.

He meant he wouldn’t pick Australians playing in L1 😂

My Wycombe pal said that he is always injured for the big games. He is at the moment?

With the benefit of selective hindsight we dodged a bullet but we couldn't have predicted his injury. Irony was the quote from the Aussie National Manager suggesting he needed a higher level than L1 and now he's signed for Mansfield - although I suspect his international days are numbered anyway now.

Water under the bridge - we have new hopes to get emotionally invested in.

I read that on a Wycombe site. Wished him, & us, well. Said he was an absolute class act but prone to injury.

.... & yes, currently injured.
