Whitesince63
Let’s hope Killie lose their home European game tomorrow night then we might be able to at least move one potential signing forward? Can’t see us landing either McAtee or Dembele given the other clubs reported to be involved but strange things do happen and I’d like to think Evatt would have moved on to other targets if he thought there was no hope? Even if "Killie" lose both legs of that they will automatically be entered into the Conference League qualifiers, so the earliest they could be out of Europe is August 15th. Getting knocked out of Europe seems as hard to do as getting knocked out of the U21s cup

Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 24 Site Supporter Share Posted July 24 I'm not giving up hope on McAtee etc. Luton are championship now, but seem to be prepared to let him go. Obviously, other championship clubs would appear to be most likely, but there may be a case for dropping down to ensure more football initially. We'll see. Assuming geography/family doesn't come into it, it will just be about money. Whether its a Championship team or Stockport coming in for him, that's what it boils down to. Not playing won't enter their heads, even if they are out of the team till Christmas they know they can get then get a loan (or perm) transfer to a lesser team and stay on the same wages. It doesn't matter to them, but the effect its had on me and presumably many other fans, is that I literally don't even see European results, they may as well as be pre-season friendlies. I used to love the various European cups for their novelty. The competitions don't exist any more as far as I'm concerned, even the final seems irrelevant. I do notice some Champions League knockout results and watch an odd game, but none of the group games, just goes on too long and no jeopardy involved (like Euro/WC qualifiers). tomski
The Kilmarnock bloke is a winger. I’m not sure I could handle that type of bants from Ian

Yeah I used to like the novelty too including when Cup Winners Cup was on, there were qualifiers for them but not this whole industry they've got now that's designed so that if a big club fucks up early on they have multiple chances to put it right. I like how the Conference League has brought in loads of random and unusual clubs (I'd love for us to play in that some day) but when you just let group stage drop outs from the next tournament up play in it anyway, what's the point? I know these guys have to look after themselves financially, but over the long term, that may be best achieved by getting regular football, proving themselves and seeing where that takes them. They'd be losing some of their physicality and directness that has worked for them. No disrespect to Sheehan, he's a good L1 player in our system, but I think they may be underwhelmed by his impact on the championship. gonzo
Maybe Sheehan might be better in a team where he doesn't receive the ball at snails pace 3,674 times a game with his back to goal while being chased down by a 6ft2 striker on the edge of his own box. Really? Wow, thanks for that Marc I didn’t know that. The problem is even if we wait there are no guarantees of a deal so unless this Armstrong is really special and we’re really confident I’d move on to other targets. Wanderlust
2 hours ago, Whitesince63 said: The problem is even if we wait there are no guarantees of a deal so unless this Armstrong is really special and we’re really confident I’d move on to other targets. Seems to me that the way it's going, there will be a lot more "strong teams" in the league this year than last so I am certain we'll have to be a fair bit better than we were if we're going to push for promotion again so we're going to need a few quality signings. The money is allegedly there and Evatt etc are "working hard behind the scenes" to secure what we need so it would be great to secure our top targets. Thing is they are our top targets because they were identified as being the best options so "moving on" sounds a bit like settling for something less. If we got McAtee, Armstrong and Dembele I'd feel confident we'd be very competitive and in with a good chance but it's become clear that none of them are done deals yet so I'm starting to sweat a bit and it's a real test of my faith. Meanwhile, other teams are settling players into their squads and there have been some astute purchases e.g. Ashworth to Blackpool for a reported 240k and the two Prem kids Wrexham have signed. I'm just hoping we are not faffing about too much in the negotiations and end up missing the boat.
