Four Seven Figure bids have gone in this Summer....One we have missed out on, gone to a top Championship club.

Mcatee and Dembele are obviously two more and Evatt states we are waiting on European matches to be completed.

Hope to god Armstrong is not a 7 figure bid.

Encouraging and concerning in equal measures.

Do we know who the championship one is we missed out on?

Let’s tell everyone we’ve a mill burning in our pocket. One thing saying it to a few fans at a Q&A but to go on record seems odd.

Add this to the Dembele/McAtee report. All very strange.

Sinceys fault wanting constant updates and club statements :)

Smokescreen

We'll go with we've got and lose a couple on deadline day

Still, Impressive though that our league one shopping list put together back in April has several £1m+ players on it

This overheating of the market in L1, largely the result of Brum chucking it about, is a bit dangerous for the finances of the bottom 2 divisions. Only a couple of seasons since nobody outside Prem other than the parachute clubs had the scope to chuck any sort of cash about. Now, seven figure fees being bandied about willy nilly in L1

All magnifies how a big a slip up it was that we fluffed it at Wembley. We're now, with our 'multiple seven figure bids', being forced to chase it harder than Ipswich did two seasons ago. Our owners have been pushed into a corner, fair play to them for coming up with the dosh.

While there's a lot of focus on these big money targets, and some fretting about how long it takes to get them while others seem to be doing business quicker, we could still pull off a couple of Prem loans that blow the opponents deals out of the water

Someone said Harrison Burrows who's going to Sheff U.  My PNE mate says they also bid on him, so realistically we were never getting him (I assume he's decent but I can't pretend I've ever noticed him in L1).

Amyway- that article: what a load of crap.

We've tended to get business done early, and generally we like it.

However, we've all seen a mixed bag of incoming players, so now we seem to be looking a bit higher, it's another moan.

Surely better players aren't as easy to snap up quickly- if only because the parent club may be looking to hawk him around a bit.

As for the wine man last year- if there was an issue on personal terms, then so be it.

Management have always said they won't go silly on wages and fees and that's fair enough.

The author should appreciate careful financial management, and get over those that done get over the line.

At last we are seeing some positive moves from the club with players we are seemingly targeting. We can only get so far with out of contract fee free players. I welcomed our recruitment the last couple of years by buying players going into the last year of their contracts.  Now it seems the penny has at last dropped by targeting players who will kick the club on but more importantly are young and have good re-sale value.

Dembele and Mcatee are signings which can bring the club two steps forward

Intrigued when this interview with Iles was.

I don't think the impact will be huge in one sense. Our club are pretty good at valuing players and sticking to their guns on that value. So, i don't expect it will lead to us paying inflated prices.

However, it's a big statement to put out to fans. My understanding had been there'd be no big claims or statements this season - this is contrary to that very early on. Naturally, it increases expectation and sets Evatt / the club up for a fall. I like Evatt as a manager, and i like a lot of what the club do. Must admit this leaves me feeling a little uneasy and I hope it doesn't bring unnecessary pressure on him

One thing I would say - bids will be in but you can be sure chats will also have taken place with agents too. McAtee and Dembele will be interested in coming here, or the club would have silenced those rumours by now.

In Evatt's quote, he talks about having players that can step upto the championship as well.  That's great but I feel like we miss out on potential good L1 players by setting the bar too high, and falling between two stools.  Just throwing a random name in like Jamie Reid who would be affordable/desperate to come here and would IMO improve our striker options this season but wouldn't tick the "championship" box.  But someone like Wrexham or Rotherham would probably benefit by signing him while we await someone better.  Time will tell anyway, still over 5 weeks to go.
