Needs more than a free transfer. 

To be honest, it would concern me that yet another body comes in, enlarges the squad further, when he's struggling to accommodate the ones already brought in this closed season.

Bigger issues need addressing, and I don't see how, of itself, another player makes everything rosy again.

Maybe they want to keep hold of him and look to bring him through?

No doubt as a "bang average" player he won't succeed, but that's for them to assess and decide.

As soon as it looks like we have less than 2 senior players for a position we go out and sign someone or get a loan in. Every single transfer window without fail. 
 

Not since imposed transfer ban and we were literally forced to play Holding have we brought a youth player through. Ironically one of our most talented players in the last century. 

 

Ahmed got 5 minutes the other night but I genuinely can’t remember any youth player getting any minutes in a league match for years. Not one. Nothing.

Samizadeh, the welsh kid who went to burnley, the keeper who was going to united

All supposed top talents, but ultimately, not good enough

Edit darcy and politic got a chance and tbh, seem to be doing ok, elsewhere

It certainly is a disappointment that we've struggled to get youngsters through.

I agree that IE readily brings folk in, whether that's because ours aren't good enough, or he wants instant success, I don't know. Whatever the case, some of the B team lads could do with either getting a chance, or the set up being reviewed.

Bring him in, make him captain

Was Captain when Evatt was briefly manager at Chesterfield

Well the pick of the bunch for me would be Matheson yet despite JDC being so poor the lads never even been given a chance. He may be young but he’s more experienced than any of the others and has looked decent in the few opportunities he has had and in pre season Conway looked every bit as good if not better than Shabby. Sometimes you just have to give these lads a chance but Evatt seems really reluctant to take one.

Of course the manager sees them week in week out, and ought to be in the best position to judge.

Yet whenever Matheson has played, he's done well. He can only do that, irrespective of the opposition. 

Interesting that the average age of our team is not the 4th (iirc) highest in the league.
