If we have done that across YDP they’ll be in the same boat. U16s have until December to be offered a scholarship; if they have the made the decision early not to extend the player has 3 options; Stay until end of contract Stay and the club will help find trials etc Leave immediately This sounds like option 2- there will be player postcards sent to other clubs to alert them of availability, I can try and see if he has been added to that, but could well be on the QT? Could be we’re on the lookout for competition at scholars, or looking to bring in a new number 1 Quote

Can’t speculate on this individual, but could be a coup and as mentioned building relations Quote
Duck Egg Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Paul Wheatcroft Who, iirc was signed after an end of season exhibition game involving Utd youngsters being released. Quote

wakey Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Not a player, but Ian Greaves. Plus another short term manager whose name escapes me (before my time). Quote
auckland_bwfc Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 United and loans always makes me think about Andy Kellett and the weird situ when we loaned him to utd. Remember being at Sheffield Wednesday when he made one of his 4 appearances for us, looked lively and a prospect that day, never panned out for him.... That was the game when Liam trotter turned in to Stoichkov! Mikael Antonio up front for them that day, and villa keeper martinez on the bench for them. Sliding doors eh.... Quote

Dr Faustus Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 They’ll be dozens more too that won’t be obvious- not necessarily starting at 16 or leading to first team football, but still vital; 8 years ago Dwight McNeil was at Man Utd, he’s classed as a Burnley academy graduate after joining in 2017! He at 25 is still playing top flight and considered a success. In the same team was a lad from Leigh who has been at the club since being 11 and earned England honours… he didn’t make a first team appearance, but did his badges and is now 1st team keeper coach working with James Trafford et al. Connor King, 25 with 30+ years ahead of him in a similar role- was released as a player but maintained as a coach. Both players born in ‘99 season… same as Jake Turner- now at Gillingham Think the point I’m making is that deals will be made at the latter YDP and PDP stages. We’re long enough in the tooth to know opportunities at the top are like rocking horse shit; but we don’t know how these things will benefit us. A player coming in on loan might sign, be sold for a profit… might be released but continue with the club after we educate him, or could even go on for next to fuck all. Quote
