What’s going on with Taylor, is he injured.

He was doing his own fitness session before the game with one of the coaches. I’ve not heard that he’s been injured but the only other time I’ve seen something similar was with Dempsey, last season I think, when he was coming back from injury - which makes me think he might be coming back from one.

Well after yesterday I think a lot of our players had better get used to spending time on the bench at best because unless we suffer some injuries, which hopefully we won’t, I don’t see many starting many games. We criticise these cup competitions but in situations like ours they’re invaluable for keeping the squad fit. With Forester and Demps shortly back in the fold too it’s going to make it even more difficult for recognised players to get a slot let alone the likes of McAtee, Inwood and Charlie Warren. We have a terrific squad but keeping them all fit and happy is going to be a tough task.

We also have a squad supported, led even, by very good loanees.

Dubbery, Burstow, Forss, Sharman-Lowe, Cissoko.

Use of loanees is always a topic for debate but I can't see how you're going to get out of this or any Division these days by turning your nose up at them.

Orient would have been a really moderate side last year but Kelman and Donley helped them get a cracking at promotion.

Always the risk of course of a Walsall situation where Lowe fired them to a big lead at the top, was recalled and they dropped badly away, but hopefully if it happened with Burstow or ACD we could secure another decent one or two.

Hopefully Hull keep improving and McBurnie scores them a hateful before Xmas. Was encouraging that Iles reported that Brighton were happy with how ACD was settled and doing well, hopefully their loans manager will be happy to let him have the full season at our level

I'm pretty sure I wasn't turning my nose up at them. Anything but.

Iles reported the other week that "he understands" there's a recall clause with ACD

The thing is, he struggled in the Championship last year so a breakout season in League One would benefit all parties really.

These recalls often don't work out, Louie Barry for instance has done nothing of note since Stockport.

My gut feeling is that we're probably worrying unnecessarily about any of our loaners returning early, but if he continues playing as well as he is and his parent club feel there's a suitable move for him in the league above, I wouldn't rule it out

We cannot complain if ACD gets re-called......We signed TSL from another team because it looked like we had a better chance of getting promotion.

And i am sure Schumacher and Fergal Harkin will be well aware of loan players doing well in lge2

Sorry, didn't phrase that properly, not you, should have said 'we' as in the club, going back to the strategy Evatt and Markham followed

We’ve got the most balanced squad I can remember for a long time, with a decent and fit understudy in every position. The problem is that most of these are not currently getting match minutes. Eventually, some of these will be needed, due to injury, illness or suspension. Tuesday offers such an opportunity.

In my opinion, this team - none of whom started today - would be competitive in League One.

Miller

Christie-Toal-Inwood-Taylor

Warren-Morley-Sheehan-Cissoko

Randall

Dalby

PS: McAtee is still only on the bench!

We arguably had that a year ago too when we thrashed Reading.  I'm not making any point here at all other than just for interest.  But I'd say this team - none started v Reading although 4 came on as sub - would also be competitive in L1:

Southwood,

Tutu, Forino, Forrester, Jones, Williams

Lolos, Morley, Dempsey

Collins, McAtee

And Arfield still only on bench 😀 (I'd have McAtee before Randall FWIW, he did score about 12 last season).

There clearly is a recall if Sheff Utd were watching him on Saturday but let’s hope both Brighton and ACD are satisfied how it’s going here and leave things alone.

zero chance he goes back to brighton unless they have plans for him being involved in the first team, which they won't

they aren't recalling him to go play at a team propping the championship up, while he's a guaranteed starter here every week

whether he stays or goes to Sheff U (or any other Championship team) comes down to if Brighton want to sell him at the end of the season

he'll be worth more next summer and of interest to championships clubs if he goes to Sheff Utd or anyone else in January and performs well until the end of the season

this is what happened with Barry at Stockport on loan from Villa last season

he joined on a season long loan and was doing very well for a team challenging for promotion

but then Hull came in for him in January on loan with a view to signing him permanetnly in the summer for £3.5M so he went there

however he got injured, only played 4 games, the move fell through and he's ended up at Sheff U on loan

if Brighton want his value to go up with a view to selling him next summer, he could well be off

What would be the situation with Forss given he is out of contract.

Would we still need to agree a pre-contract agreement, or would he just become our player in January if we did offer him a contract seen as he is already here?

We can't formally contact him or sign any contract until his current one expires

To sign him permanently in January, we'd either have to agree a fee with his club or they come yo an agreement to release him

(I think he might also be able to pay his own contract up)

He's last year of his Boro contract, so from Jan we could open up contract talks with him about a permanent move in the summer for free and tie him down on a pre-contract. But so could every other club

Not officially, though I'm sure informal discussions take place all the time

But by the rules, clubs can only contact players within the last six months of their contract if they're under a different national governing body

If it's not an international transfer, the rules are that players can only be contact officially in the last month of their contract
