See whilst I broadly agree, I have some sympathy for him. Idiots blame him as though he's working for the club. Iles is a reporter, if he says "I heard we're signing a striker" then it doesn't happen, its not his fault. He could say nowt and everyone would moan at him then.

 

I totally agree he's a simpleton, but he's a journalist working for a local rag. People expect him to be the one making the signings. It is crazy.

yes signings may not work out after he has been given the heads up but thats totally different than asking where someone got that information from, denying it came from himself only to be proved it was in fact him

As a local journalist I think he does ok between the balance of keeping in with the club and releasing news. Lots of local rags have no relationship with the club at all and basically become critiques rather than news.

 

He is critical at times but also seems to keep in enough to get some news.

 

The tweet you're referencing seemed a throwaway comment by him rather than concrete information. Perhaps he'd heard they were sniffing round a striker, perhaps it was wrong, perhaps it hasn't happened yet. Who knows.

 

Not defending him, its fairly poor that he forgot that tweet. Equally though I'm sure he gets info from agents, players, managers and other journalists all the time and he has to decide what to publish.
