Way I see it is we could have a front three of Ameobi, Donaldson and Wildschut. Add someone in for Donaldson if we sign the striker Parky wants.

 

That is pace and power and height out wide and presumably a target up front.

 

We can still go long from the back but will have 3 targets with different attributes who can in their different ways bring the likes of Oztumer into the game from centre mid.

 

We aren’t passing from the back suddenly but can be more effective with the more varied options.

Until we have that Parky would be crazy to play anything other than 4 5 1. Or 4 2 3 1.

In fairness we don’t have 4 defenders capable of playing as a 4, should we go 5 at the back?

 

We’ve also not got a striker good enough to lead the line on their own either

 

Wingback’s allow you to play 3 in the middle and two up top, however given that we have a dozen attacking wingers on the books that ain’t happening

 

In fairness to ALF he was very busy when I watched him, he lead the line well, even if he struggles to win the ball when it’s booted 70 yards in the air.

 

I also think we looked like we would score more with him on than when he was on the bench last season. The last game against Forest a case in point, he came on in the second half when we were on 0, we scored 3 in half an hour, he scored one and got another assist

Looking at the players we’ve signed so far, I’m optimistic we can win at least twice away from home this time. Some players who look like they’d be comfortable hitting teams on the break. I still think we need to be much better at the back yet, Beevers and Taylor are league 1 players and Wheater has his moments
