Wanderlust
Iles is mentioning Lee Bonis again which is all well and good but several clubs have declared an interest in him so his price is on the rise. Seems like our brief Doyler-inspired monopoly on NI players has come to an end unless Evatt can convince him to talk to Toal and Bradley on international duty and be persuaded that the BWFC experience is going to be good for him. Due to Doyler's work we had pretty much a free run at Toal and the other lad we took for the B team whereas Bonis is attracting a lot of interest so it implies to me that we're going to have to work harder in the NI market if the talent is there. Not saying it's not in budget, but the increased competition may mean we'll have to pay more than originally anticipated. Whitesince63
I think 300k may be an inflated fee for a player who’s never played at a decent level. The Irish league is basically our National League equivalent and whilst there may be much speculated interest, turning that into a deal isn’t confirmed but certainly if we could get him for half that I’d say it’s a good piece of business. If another club wants to exceed that then that’s up to them. The lads obviously got a decent scoring record but then so did young Langstaff at Notts County but I think he’s going to find it a lot harder in L2 next year. Signings from similar leagues are a gamble so recruiting one from a much lower level even more so.

Dunno what his starting price was but they want 300k They bought him for 100k least season then he scored 15 in 16 so seems a fair price to me given the interest

Whether or not he was coming to his natural end, he's another huge hole in the squad that needs replacing, no longer having the option of his guile and goal potential. I'd be very impressed if we get someone as good as him as a replacement.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 13, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted June 13, 2023 Lee was a magnificent player for us, but at the end, hardly played, so he won't be that difficult to replace.

Mantra
Glad he's signed on, but that's us now for strikers. Charles, Bodvarsson, Jerome and Victor Considering we didn't score enough goals last season, gonna have to hope the last two can step their game up and make more of an impact this season. I’d still be looking to add a “big name” striker because there’s question marks over Vic’s ability (I think he’ll come good) and JDB’s fitness, but if they are all firing then it’s some lineup if you add 1 more to it. tkonion
For me this is very positive news. Obviously there have been issues previously with JDB's fitness, and I'd be surprised if this hasn't been reflected in the value of his contract. When fit this guy totally transforms our attack, particularly when he comes on as a sub. Interesting that the article states that his contract is initially for one year, I wonder if a certain number of appearances trigger an extension? No way - Sharon’s publicly stated she wants automatic promotion, she’s not daft enough to believe that those 4 definitely deliver that. Add 1 more, disregard Jerome and hope Vic fires
kent_white
I still think we'd have gone up if JDB had stayed fit. Used to completely change the face of the game when he came on.

Bradley did well, especially start of the season but then it dried up for him a bit as teams worked us out. Need Morley and Sheehan to use their distance-shooting ability more so this season when teams set up camp in their own box.

paulhanley
I'm OK with JDB, he's been a good un and we all hope he gets a decent run with his fitness. Question now is whether we have room for a further striker? Have we enough goals between Charles/Victor/Jerome/JDB? Given we've lost Kachunga/Dapo/Shoretire/Lee it may be that we're need an attacking midfielder who can also convert into a striker? Nixon replied to a tweet from someone yesterday saying we're trying to make eight or nine new signings - so the fifth striker isn't completely implausible. Yes it’s not enough but bod and Charles are the only two that are any good I would try to get shut of Jerome and bring another one in as for victor we are probably stuck with him unfortunately unless burton will give us the money back
