Convinced part of the problem is having Clough and Ameobi doing their bit defensively. No problem with their willingness to do as requested, but not sure either are that good at it. See their goal yesterday, Clough doesn't close the guy down quick enough. Reckon they're actually getting a bit knackered.

Ameobi been a bit quiet recently- doesn't seem to get his head down so much and go at opponents, but happy to drop back and help out defense.

Sometimes think we should either go for the jugular or put more in midfield once we're two up. Chris Taylor coming on changes nothing.

it was andy taylor

as for the goal, we were a shambles as they came at us

dunno where wilson was as ameobi was at right back

from memory wilson was prob at cb, which begs the question where wheater and/or beevers had got to

was probably c taylors fault

They found a way to get at us second half by making the pitch wide and throwing the two full backs forward. They should have scored earlier in the half when the right back got clean through but didn't find anyone with the pull back.

It does expose that Ameobi and Clough will do their best to help out but neither are defensively minded. It shouldn't have been an issue (again) though if we'd been more ruthless at 2-0. Too many flicks and little passes going astray 2nd half. Difficult conditions didn't help, making it hard for Clough to get in the game.

We need to be getting ourselves in a position to take foot off the gas at three or four nil against these sorts of teams, instead of two nil, which is by no means a secure lead

Clough gets exposed a lot more than Ameobi. They sussed this in the second half and they were able to put crosses into the box from their right wing far too easily. Thankfully we've got the best two CBs in the division who are pretty decent at dealing with crosses.

Taylor was indeed far too slow. He'd been sucked in with the pin-ball play in the box. Clough is just in the picture as the chap crosses it. I don't blame Clough, but a more natural defender would see the chap in acres and bust a gut to get to him.

Just think our two wide men are sometimes stuck betwixt and between.

Instead of looking at the forwards, you need to look at the back six

FFS, Thorpe and Derek the messiah just stand and wave their arms

Wheater is doing nowt, which might be why Wilson is in the middle with Ameobi at right back

I agree with you!

But they are required to help out defensively, which I reckon is costing them in an attacking sense. Not just the goal but quite often in open play. We tend to be a bit similar in a lot of home games; so far not been a problem as we have been so solid at the back. Hopefully we'll carry on in a similar vein.

Be interesting to see how Scunthorpe approach the game.

Not great performance but a great 3 points. I've decided I mustn't be able to be subjective about madine. I thought he was terrible yesterday till the last 5 minutes. Far too weak and looked like a kid playing at a higher age level. He was part of how proffesonal we were running the clock down though, he looked transformed and helped us govern it out on the touchline. Reading other comments though I'm in the minority on madine. He wasn't on his own with a few below par. Good attendence considering the price. Burnden wise wasn't the home capacity only around 16 the last few years? Doing alright fans wise

Madine did ok with both centre Half's to deal with. Clough and Amoebi did not link up with him at all well or give him any service.

He's been getting some pretty rough treatment by one or both centre halves he's faced for a while now, leading the line well. I'm warming to him.
