Whites man Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Impressive times NIC, just kick on and get that first marathon under your belt. I did Edinburgh in 2016 and it is a decent event, if you do it post a Just Giving link on here and I am sure I will not be alone in chucking a few quid your way. There's a typo in your last post, your uncle would have had a wife and not a husband. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 so who lost weight and who is still a fat cunt? weighed myself on NYD this year still 14 stone bang on which all things considered, like copious amounts of ale and a lazyish diet, isn't so bad but apparently my cholesterol is too high at 6.3 and should be 5 or less, so aiming to get that down in the next 3 months got more time now to fit exercise into my daily routine so that's on the up this year see what happens Started 2017 at 15 stone 12, finished it at 14 stone 9, and that includes putting on c9 pounds over Christmas. Glad to have a much lower starting point for the year, although this week would indicate that’s a bad thing as I’m really struggling to get the motivation to get back to exercising and eating healthily; I’ve just come back from a pizza and cheesy bacon fries at Frankie & Benny’s because every restaurant within 20 miles is emailing me with half price vouchers. My ultimate goal is to get my weight beginning with 12 stone but the last 3 years has taught me that’s pretty unlikely. Got done to 13-10 in 2016 and 13-13 during 2017 and felt good with it so probably going to realign my sights and to aim for 13-7 by the time I go to Canada in June. Quote
jeep Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I joined a gym in July, was 115kg. Started off going 2/3 times a week for first few months, then increased to 4 times. Had a couple of 3 week breaks due to bad back and Xmas. Doing lots of reps with machines and free weights plus cardio on bike or cross trainer. Can't do any running as my knees are fucked First day back there this morning. Weighing in at 96.5kg. So lost approximately 40lbs. Quote
Winchester White Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I am a skinny git but with a beer belly. Need to sort my shit out because despite doing pretty good over the summer I am back to square one again. I will be honest it is a mental challenge for me, motivation is severely lacking. Quote
tarian1979 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 13st 3 but Zippo muscle all a pop belly. Cutting out chocolate and crisps. Ambaged 4 days already tough. Mainly in work the struggle eat crap through boredom. Start3d to run at gym again was 21.5mins to in august ciricumstnafes at home meant hardly ran lat3 part of year. Back on Tuesday eased in with a 2.5k proper struggle 11 50. Same distance 10 57 tonight. Need build up to 5k next month and then try get the summer times back. Hopefully kick on the break 21 back part of year. Not running outside until april Quote
tarian1979 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 No ale at all in the house. Doesn't bother me. Two binges a month bat holidays will stick too. Quote
jules_darby Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I turn 40 end of June and have decided enough is enough Fit for 40 is the goal Started with a PT about 6 weeks ago but I’ve been playing with the diet really - on and off. Lost a bit and got stronger, then it went to shit for the last 2 weeks Going all out from Monday See how long it lasts Quote
Biggish Dave Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 No different to last year, lost a bit put it all back on and maybe with interest. No setting a goal as such other than to live a bit healthier. Less brews and booze, a bit more water and exercise and see where it takes me Quote
zurichwhite Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I've gone from 104kgs to 89kgs in 12-18 months which at 6' 4" is target weight. Never been into serious gym time or diets but tried 3 things which I've been able to sustain: 1. Lots of walking, no potential joint problems, fresh air, just time intensive but I can have work meetings with colleagues or take calls while walking. I started with 10,000 steps, now average 15,000 which burns about 3,000 calories a day. It's 2.5 hours a day but easy if you fit 30-60 minute stints where possible (even walking around the house sometimes). 2. Reduce carbs significantly after lunch, otherwise a pasta dish just before bed just turns into fat. Commonsense really. 3. Substitute beer for G&Ts, probably drinking more as a result but with sugar free tonics, you can get pissed without 1,000+ calories being otherwise consumed through beer intake Quote

There's a typo in your last post, your uncle would have had a wife and not a husband. Cheers, as I’m doing the by myself I’m never sure how I’m doing. Had a nightmare in Dec as I’d done the 100 mile month (but being a dick - did it in 3 weeks) and my ankle started to feel sore, started a half marathon event and had to pull out at 12k - couldn’t walk for a week and only just back to doing 7k - was a total idiot, did too much, didn’t taper...lesson learnt. Would love to do a marathon sooner, just worried about fitting in the training with work and kids and I’d like the first one to be a good one, plus we’ve got friends to stay with - this running lark can soon rack up the money. Anyway, I might post the link when we start fundraising if that’s ok despite it being all unnatural like! Quote

Sweep Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I'm pretty much the same weight now that I was this time last year, and the year before and the year before that - for whatever reason I just seem to hover at 12.5st, possibly going up or down pound on occassion, but never moving very much at all, no matter if I do a load of exercise and eat healthy, or binge drink and eat shit food. tarian1979 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I was similar til 2017 always high 12s then seemed put on half a stone. 34 inch waist for 15 years. Noticed was getting tight. 13 st 3 and not 12 8-10 as usual Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 2. Reduce carbs significantly after lunch, otherwise a pasta dish just before bed just turns into fat. Commonsense really. 3. Substitute beer for G&Ts, probably drinking more as a result but with sugar free tonics, you can get pissed without 1,000+ calories being otherwise consumed through beer intake I found a low carb diet to be really successful for me early last year but was really struggling for dinner ideas. Makes sense to limit carbs after dinner so going to give that a go along with calorie counting. I tried the same with booze but it’s hard to be in a pub where everyone is drinking pints and you’re on the shorts. Ended up just writing those days off as the times I tried sticking with G&T or whisky & Diet Coke I ended up being absolutely plastered. Quote
fester58 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 started the the year at 134 kilo, massively overweight after hammering the ale all year, my aim is to get down to 120ish by the end of the year, i need to drastically cut down by ale intake, iwas running 1/2 marathons 2 years ago, I couldn't run a bath now, wish me luck. Not in Crawley Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 No snacking as well in-between meals, or only fruit. Makes a huge difference. Pointless eating shit snacks at work, getting fat for no reason, work is bad enough! Although, basically expend more than you put in. That's the only way. My top tip is that a run on a hangover might be an evil thing, but it is still the best hangover cure I've found. 20 minutes later you'll feel right as rain. Quote
Sweep Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I tried sticking with G&T or whisky & Diet Coke I ended up being absolutely plastered. Haha One of my mates tried this a year or two ago, wanted to lost weight, so stopped drinking pints, ended up drinking pints of white wine and soda (Big Sams tipple of choice it seems) - we'd all go out and have maybe 8 or 10 pints, he would match us pint for pint, and then would be absolutely wankered by the end of the evening. He's back on normal pints now, and is still a fat fucker Quote

I'm a bit like that. When I used to properly train I'd be one that would struggle to bulk up. Really annoying when you want to look like Arnie and stay like brad Pitt I did have a scare recently though when, after crowing to my Mrs that the same jean size has fit me since leaving school, I went to put an old belt on and couldn't even meet the ends! I do seem to have put on more 'bulk' these last few years but thankfully it seems evenly spread. If I don't exercise as much (well, play golf) I just eat a bit less. I read a New Scientist article years ago that reported that males who trained very actively in their 20s/early 30s showed an increase and longevity in their metabolisms as they aged compared to those who didn't, even if they later stopped exercise altogether. So, do it while you can all you young bucks! Quote

madthatter Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 i think theres the question of why we eat i eat cos i want to others eat cos theyre hungry Aye, some folk graze which I can't do. I'll tend to eat very little then gorge myself but then not eat for a good while after, until I feel hungry again, basically. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I love food but it's not a massive thing for me, as in I've not had anything to eat yet today (bad I know but forgot my porridge this morning.) Lunch is usually pitta with soup. Dinner tonight is veggie stir fry and that's it for the day. As I'm having a dry month, will have a treat takeaway curry on sat, but we normally order one main and rice to share between us as that's enough. Fats are good, it's the sugar I've cut out (save it for the booze!) Quote
