Always liked watching a bit of Rick Stein when i happened across one of his things, but until Long Weekends didn't make a point of looking out for it.

Anyway, loved that series and weighing up going to Padstow for three days to stay at one of his hotels.

Anyone been?

Not done that neck of the woods, so is Newquay the place to go to break the three days up?

Grazie.

Padstow is good, Stein has a restaurant, bistro and chippy there. We did the Bistro, sat outside with the dog.

Newquay is okay but a bit Blackpool.

Head north east to Port Isaac where they film Doc Martin. Decent pub overlooking the beach and Stein's protege Nathan Outlaw has a restaurant and cafe there.

Really like sea food so a fan of Stein's stuff but he is cringeworthy.  That series he did in India was unintentionally piss funny (he's no Floyd ;) )

I'd say head south and go to Looe rather than Newquay.  Although with kids the latter might be better.

There's a little cove/beach place called Lantic bay not far from Looe which is amazing.  Google it!

Yes its great

Padstow is lovely

We stayed here which was great. 2 mins walk down the hill and you are in the harbour. Advantage it has its own parking which not many do.

Good beaches, and good eating and drinking.

Hire a bike and do the camel trail

Only downside of my holiday was i had booked steins and had to cancel because i ended up with flu!

If based at Padstow and feel the need to see more tourist sites head up coast to Tintagel and Boscastle rather than Newquay..

Personally I'd just be doing coastal walks around Treyarnon and Harlyn to West and Polzeath near Doc Martens to East.

If going to south coast to Lantic Bay area do Polperro or Polruan rather than Looe.

Rick Stein has a decent little bar as well called Ruby's Bar. Dog friendly (if you have one) and serves really good cocktails and a large gin menu if that's your thing! Can't recommend it highly enough.

Also tried a place called Prawn on The Lawn after a recommendation from the hotel we were staying it, it was really top notch for seafood.

Would avoid Newquay, but agree you should have a day elsewhere as Padstow isn't that big. Mevagissey, Looe and Polperro are all superb.

When down that way, I always like to visit Mevagissey, which is about a 45 minute drive from Padstow. It's my favourite place in Cornwall

Aye it's nice there, stayed nearby for a couple of days late last year.  Can't really go wrong wherever you go down there but the amount of traffic does start to become a bit boring after a few days.

Been going to S Wales more recently.  I'd recommend if you've never been and like Cornwall.

Did Pembrokeshire last year. A couple of places were busy but found a couple of beaches with few people on. Great countryside etc, and the blue-est sea I've ever seen

We've stayed a few times recently.  Best place was St Davids.  Good 'central' location but not too busy and loads of ace beaches nearby.  There's an old hippy type lodging/cafe place near there called Druidstone (I know! )  but it's really worth a visit, for the view alone if nothing else.  Lovely part of the world that I think gives you what Cornwall does but with less folk about.

We're going over Easter with the little one for a few days, can't wait!

You'll enjoy the grub then; some normal stuff for weirdos like me, but lots of stuff with grubs and bugs in. Looked really good but there's no bloody way I was eating it.

Handling Madagascan cockroaches was interesting as were the stick insects, but you have to be careful with the latter as its easy to snap them.

Kinell, didn't last long. What a shame.

Perhaps there was an infestation of quality meat amongst the insects.

You're saved- checked the web site- closed until later in Feb for planned work.

Their twitter feed is going strong too.

Its got high reviews too.

Seems Google report is slightly misreported.
