bolton va va Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 The old Shrewsbury was my favourite away trip..........the new one is just another identikit, out of town, lower league ground. I'll make my mind up on Monday. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Lovely part of the world. Great for a weekend stay. A49 a pleasant drive even if traffic is heavy. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Is it's shrew or shrow?eitherAlthough I think more of the locals say shrew. Discussed it on the radio once! Quote
bgoefc Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Its deffo Shrew. As an aside I have been told that Shrewsbury is a town thats worth spending a weekend in. Don't know if this is true. Quote

Don't know if this is true. Great place, though Ludlow is also great. Some lovely walks along the river right centrally to the city. Cracking park there two. Also near to this place http://www.hawkstoneparkfollies.co.uk Brilliant place, if you've got enough breath left, go up the tower- can see for many a mile. Quote
Spider Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I live in Shrewsbury 4 days a week and it's a lovely town. The A49 is the bane of my life and it can fuck off in every way imaginable. I'm in corporate for this one, and the locals want our scalp. It's pronounced Shrew Can recommend most boozers in the town centre for a drink. Bolty will be along shortly to tell you the EBF firm are still something to worry about, but unless you think being glared at by a 14 year old in a kappa tracksuit is scary, you'll all be fine. Quote
Marc505 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Went in the cup game that Rob Hall dominated... really nice set up and surrounding area. Im out. Quote

Haha- suppose driving it almost daily spoils it somewhat. Use it regularly to access Salop, Hereford and wales. Not so bad in school hols. Remember going to the old ground once- the best pie in a ground ever! Quote
gonzo Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Do they still have a man in a little boat collecting balls from the river behind the stand? Quote
Casino Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 The river doesn't watch em any more Goes watching United as the new ground has no soul Quote

SatanGreavsie Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Don't do what I did for the LC game and stay in the Premier Inn by the motorway. Middle of some small industrial estate, longish walk to the ground and there's fuck all on the way - only indication of humanity I saw on the walk was a sign to "Percy Thrower Garden Centre". And I thought "I'm sure that fucker died years ago". At the end of the game I got a lift back from Ex-Midland, which was just as well as I was touching cloth. Percy's garden centre would have got an extra boost of fertilizer if he hadn't driven me. Nice enough ground with some local touches all based round the notion of "Salop", which is also French slang for bitch. Or summat. Do what I did and spend the next two days in Ludlow getting battered Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Drove to the League Cup game, on the train for this one to make the most of it. Not a clue but booked on the 8:30 train. Quote

Not a clue but booked on the 8:30 train.Fuck me, not only have I booked the 08:30 out, I've booked the 17:52 back. Don't suppose anyone fancies taking three train tickets off me so I book more reasonable times?! Quote
EyesRight Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) Those from over Chorley way you can get a wayfarer ticket to Wilmslow for £12 and then it's £15 from there to Shrewsbury return. COYWM. Edit: Works from Wigan, Leigh, Darwen and Radcliffe as well. £47 all in...that'll do me. Edited March 2, 2017 by EyesRight Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 (edited) If anyone is in need of a train ticket coming home, I've got three for sale (two of them with a Two Together Railcard) for the 17:52. Anything over a fiver for the lot will do for me. Edited March 3, 2017 by Leyther_Matt Quote
