Dr Faustus Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 27 storey tower block gone up. I've never seen anything like it. Hope and prayers to all involved... appears to be families etc. Hope everyone gets out, would be amazed- but fear the worst. Apparently gas works taken place... hopefully nothing more sinister. Quote
Dr Faustus Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 Possible fridge exploding... 200 families in there. Luckily many people awake due to Ramadan Quote
Mixu Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Fuck me, what a nightmare. Be very surprised if there aren't triple figure fatalities. Hope to fuck I'm wrong. Quote
DaveTheRave Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Unbelievable how it spread through the whole block. Never seen something like that. Shocking. Quote
Matt Lofthouse Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Poor people. Apparently the fire alarm didn't go off in the landlord areas, following a refurb 3 months ago. RIP Quote
madthatter Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Bloody hell that looks terrible. I know they have to but those water cannons look as much use as taking a piss on a bonfire. Hopefully no fatalaties Quote

Widnes Two Hats Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 The old bloke who kept waving the sheet out of the window and shouting for help, it must be awful after 10 mins but 6 or 7 hours, hope they get him out Quote
Boby Brno Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Seems like there were warnings. https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/2016/11/20/kctmo-playing-with-fire/ Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 The intensity and scale of that fire is incredible. Some serious questions to be asked. Quote
Escobarp Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 horrific. Thoughts go out to all the friends and family and the poor bastards who had to endure that living or dead Quote
mickbrown Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Bloke on the radio saying they had been refurbed lately and whatever they had clad the building in just went up. Looking at the pics it certainly looks that way Quote
Escobarp Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Yeah my father in law is an insurance loss adjuster and says his money is on the insulation used in the recladding wasn't fire retardant to save money on the part of the contractor. Problem is most contractors of that nature will have limited PI cover of say 5m which won't scratch the surface of this. Building going to have to be demolished in all likelihood Quote

And not having enough insurance cover? Quote
Escobarp Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 problem with insurance is what is enough? Something like this is unprecedented and 5m PI cover you would imagine is enough for most eventualities. Quote
Big E Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 This is a truly tragic event. what is worrying is many of these old style flats have been undergoing refurb for the cladding. all the ones in the center of Chester were completed a couple of years back. Hopefully they sort the problem and avoid any further tragedies. Quote
Escobarp Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 If it is a contractor using bad materials I hope they get locked up for murder for a very long time. Quote
Widnes Two Hats Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 If that is true, somebody needs a major fucking, especially the Contractor for using non fire retardant material in 2017 Quote

Nowack Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Most insulation is fire retardant so I would be surprised. What you do sometimes get is a chimney effect in the ventilated cavity between the insulation and the cladding. If no fire barriers are fitted this can cause a rapid spread of fire. Way to early to speculate though on what is a tragic event. Quote
