June 24, 20178 yr is it not a bit OTT I know it was a bad fire but the odds must be one in millions and the cost to the tax payer and councils must mean more cutbacks in other areas Rock and a hard place... They need to show concern and a duty of care, but the cost will be huge.. The companies concerned are all stating that works were done to speciation and inline with regulations... As you said it was a freak accident, but precautions now have to take place. On a side note, got a very left person on my Facebook, who is blaming the rich elite, who apparently wanted them improving so that they didn't look as messy from their fancy houses and that every rich business owner should leave the country...
June 24, 20178 yr They have to move them, if they didn't and a similar thing happened (unlikely I know) then they would be fucked for leaving people in a building that they know is dangerous.

But in Camden it seems most residents got first news of the evacuation from Sky News. Once the Fire Service told the council that, irrespective of the cladding, the internal gas piping was all wrong, there was no alternative, but knocking folk up at 2a.m. to leave was definitely OTT. Common sense would have them notifying residents as they left from, say 6a.m., that they would need to vacate that day, especially as their was a fire engine parked outside anyway.

June 24, 20178 yr It's probably a drop in the ocean to the bail out the bankers were given to be honest. Can't take the risk of another disaster.
June 24, 20178 yr So i take it there was no fire tests taken on all these blocks with cladding in the first place. Including Grenfell. Better late than never i guess..
June 24, 20178 yr I think it is an over reaction but the tenants have a right to feel safe. Chances of another fire are slim, but who would want to risk it?
June 24, 20178 yr You could have fire marshalls employed 24/7 in the affected properties at probably a lower cost and with certainly less disruption for the tenants than the midnight eviction. But the Labour controlled Camden council wanted to make a political point and it has got the story back on the front page.

And her mother is a Labour peer.

Common sense would have them notifying residents as they left from, say 6a.m., that they would need to vacate that day, especially as their was a fire engine parked outside anyway. London Fore brigade has just reduced itsStations by 10, Fire engines by about 15 and firemen by a few hundred. Did you think having a fire crew with appliance standing by at all the flats is sustainable?
June 25, 20178 yr Also, the risk of it happening again are significantly higher if certain sections of our communities decide to use it as a new form or terror attack.

I keep hearing similar comments Isn't it the job of a council to make areas look nice, that's the whole point ffs If they did nothing the same people would piss and moan about them leaving them as they are The fact that £10m was spent on Grenfell, most of which wasn't to clad the thing shows that plenty of money has been available. Thats £100k per flat, cuts my arse! Cuts would be them saying we're skint and not spending money renovating the tower, or considerably less than £10m Granted the building regs and / or inspection has failed but a huge investment was made and the intentions were in the right place, It's just not being recognised Fuck it, make these blocks safe then don't spend a penny on them, it's wasted

They are privately owned and monies used to pay for their upkeep not be council cash.Should separate housing from cuts. Edited June 25, 20178 yr by Tonge moor green jacket
