Seeing Pudsey died recently, I know how hard it is, my Boxer died last year and there isn't a day I don't think about her, miss her like mad.

I have a Weimaraner atm, have had 2 boxers 1 tan and 1 brindle, Doberman Pinscher, rabbits, guinea pigs and fish.

Would love to have another Boxer, they are my favourite breed of dog.

My dog big sam is nearing the end :(

He's 12&half and has a big whopping lump/tumour on his leg that's getting bigger over time. He's still walking about now and happy as Larry but if it gets too big he won't be able walk proper then it's game over.

The vet say they could operate but can't guarantee they could close the wound back up. The test results on whether it's cancerous or not were inconclusive so even if they do move it he could still have cancer.

Totally fucking shite situation. Want him to enjoy his last days but not sure putting him through a massive op that probably won't extend his life is worth it.

Doing my head in.

Personally, wouldn't bother putting your dog through such invasive surgery at that age, we once did the same with a German Shepherd, thought we were going to prolong her life, she never recovered after the operation and we had her put down just weeks later. If you can afford drugs to prolong your dogs life, that's the way I'd go.

Aye that's the way I'm leaning mate. Just didn't want to give up on him :(

If he was in pain or not eating etc I wouldn't think twice but apart the lump slowing him down on walks he's actually sound as a pound. The fuckers just getting bigger, it's the of an American football now.

The vets have been ace and even given us a free batch of meds to keep him moving freely as well as pain killers.

Yeah know how you feel, my parents Doberman is now 10 and they recently shelled out 2K for a MRI scan (Not Insured) she couldn't walk due to to a disk putting pressure on her spinal cord, back legs had gone. She's now on plenty of meds and fortunately my parents can afford it, she's like a different dog now.

My Boxer was 11 and fine until we noticed a lump near her left arm pit area, it started to grow and the vet/results sad it was cancer, she had it removed and came home, she didn't do very well, few days after she couldn't move, she was rushed to the vet and they said they'd ring us with her progress, got a phone call later that night saying she had passed away.

I have a golden lab, Parsnip, she's ace. Only 2 so hopefully plenty of life left. Grew up with retrievers, very upsetting when they croak. We also have a cat but won't really be bothered when that goes

It's funny how when your dog dies, only other dog owners who have been through the same experience can understand how you're feeling.

Everyone else just thinks your just being a daft mard fucker.

So true. I'm constantly fighting with myself telling myself it's just a dog etc.

But I've had him nearly all my adult life. I got him for my 21st birthday. Every single day for the past 12&half years bar the odd holiday me and him have spent the best part of an hour wandering across some field or beach somewhere. Day in day out rain or shine.

I've always had boxers. Got 5 at the moment including a new puppy. Also had min pins - wife wants another - and yorkies. Called one of the yorkies Worthington.

I have never been a dog person but we have had a miniature dachshund for the last 18 months and he is part of the family. A right little aggressive shit he can be at times with visitors but such a soft bugger with us. I would be devastated if he went now never mind after 10+ years of companionship.

When my last dog passed I tried to give him the best week of his life including a meat pack of his own from Barron's of beef.

When the day came I was sat with him in the vets trying to be brave but failing miserably. A massive bloke with a bic'd head and scars on his knuckles just sat holding his elderly dog and sobbing in reception.

The thing that I appreciated though was all the other blokes in there, not a single one judged or commented. I received a number of reassuring knowing nods. Folk showing they understood.

Had a bull mastiff, dead now, but I loved the big fella.

Daughter currently has a cat that she dotes on.

In the last 2 years he's been hit by a car twice - circa £7k vets bills.

Thank God it's insured.....,

Losing a member of the family. It is fucking dreadful.

Been through it twice now and not replaced him this time. Couldn't handle a third time. Mard twat.

Remember when it was time for saying bye to our lurcher. Horrible, but glad we had a home euthanasia. Less stressful for all and I had the honour of doing the last thing for him by carrying him to the vet's car.

They sorted out the cremation.

Wife and lad want another dog now, as do I in some ways but they are tying.
