If you earn £50k , you get £37500  taxable income so the 1% cut in income tax next year is worth £375 to you per annum from April 2023

If you have a £100k mortgage every 0.5% on interest rates costs you £500.  This applies now.

Cost of living crisis ??

He can’t answer a direct question. Labour won’t get in with him in charge.

Not to mention the massive hypocrisy on show from the very first in Liverpool. National anthem never been sung in living memory at a Labour Party conference.

Due to recent events, they now see it as a potential vote winner. I wonder how many hundreds of republicans sang it through gritted teeth.

Also how long before we see these new jobs and wealth?  Unlikely to be in the short term, so reducing tax intake at a time when borrowing is at its highest it has been in years is an incredible gamble, and if it does go wrong it isn't the ones it is benefitting the most that will suffer the consequences.

I would suggest that it needs to be within two years or they really will be toast and have to spend a term in opposition.

This vid, apart from the wolves bit obvs, shows how precarious our ecosystem is.

Utterly amazing that. Just from one pack to begin with.

I'd reintroduce them to Sutherland but that won't go down well with sheep farmers. Deer and sheep have completely ravaged our tree and wildflower population. Any tree planting drive has to go hand in hand with reducing their numbers. Whilst Wolves don't hunt all the deer, they completely change the way they graze which protects younger trees and other plants.

I doubt we'll see them up here anytime soon, but the good news is we're about set to reintroduce 5 wild Lynx in Scotland which will have similar impacts that the wolves would.

Chat to your local butchers about wild Venison sources. I put a load in the slow cooker last week and got about 6 meals from an £8 bag. Delicious and one of the greenest food products you can buy in this country.

Sums its all up perfectly.

Ive already watched what little greenbelt and countryside we had left round me get decimated by stupid fuck off noddy villages.

I live a stones throw from the river wyre estuary. Against all local advice and knowledge they plonked a giant new housing estate on the flood plains next to it. Fucked the eco system and drainage system for the whole area.

Geese used to migrate to those fields as they were under water most of the year, as well as fox burrows further in land. All got pulverised. This after planning was refused by 3 different committees but then passed by one overriding corrupt judge.

There are areas close that would be prime for development that are now no longer protected. There will be nothing left.

Awful that. How those kind of building decisions are still legal is beyond me.

No way will they get 2 years - in the space of just a few days they've managed to get the economy spinning - they could be toast before Christmas at this rate

There'll be an emergency hike in rates, 0.75% I would think

I'm hoping that'll happen just to stop the slide in Sterling.

Obviously it'll fuck over those on variable or tracker mortgages (do we know what sort of percentage of people aren't on a fixed rate?)

There won’t be an emergency rate hike.

That just makes everything look like we’re panicking.

Thankfully, the Tories aren’t in charge of that, so the BoE will sit firm. Which is the better option.

I agree, I don't see that happening as it'll spook the market further surely........I hope it does though 🙂

Bolty Fact Check.

The National Anthem was sung without disruption from any part of the conference. Even at The World Transformed Momentum's fringe event at the conference had McDonald say that they should stay the course with Starmer, with even Corbyn wishing to regain the whip despite the more fervent members of Momentum still pushing for the Socialist Campaign Group to form a breakaway party, Momentum has lost, well, it's Momentum.

Another damned if they do, damned if they don't from our Australian correspondent focusing on total distractions as the economy vanishing down a plughole.
