So as I say, use the previous years records. It’s what they did during COVID.

So you have already put in an extra level of checking plus how do you know if people had other income either PAYE or self cert - I can guarantee those 2 systems do not talk to each other let alone other systems outside HMRC (And relying on HMRC records - I hope nothing your accountant told means you need to contact them - nightmare)

People who live abroad ?

People who draw down non taxable income ?

These are off the top of my head. I agree that the point they are using is flawed in many ways, but it is easy. Which I imagine is why they are planning to use it.

All this talk about pensions started with Ms. Reeves robbing grannies. I said that pressure is growing on what, in effect could be totally ineffective.
https://www.unitetheunion.org/campaigns/defend-the-winter-fuel-payment

I liked this bit. It could end up costing more! Clueless.

‘The proposed cuts to Winter Fuel Payments will only save about £1.4 billion a year. But if all the pensioners who are entitled to pension credit are prompted to apply for it as a result, the total cost of paying out this unclaimed money would cost the government £2.2 billion a year – so it might save nothing at all.’

lifes tough

choices have to be made

if ive got 5 million, i dont need a state pension

not saying thats the choice that should be made, but it has to be on the table

Fully means testing pensions would be a nightmare. 12m ongoing claims every year there will be multiple factors that affect how much you get. Set it at a base level and everyone gets the same .

Better off people can chuck more in , as they do now in private schemes.

No system would be perfect but could be better than what’s proposed.
My meeting went well. They are my buffer with HMRC. 👍

It doesn't really make any sense either

Is She suggesting only communists and Jews would've spoke out against a smoking ban

But they're not, because they've gone somewhere or been got rid of?

I know it's not meant to be literal

But I don't think it's pertinent either

It's just nonsense

And she didn’t quote it in full.

She missed the bit about the socialists and the trade unions. Wonder why?

She’s a fucking idiot

She should have just put a shepherds pie in a microwave and said the winter fuel payments were oven ready and we’re better than them bloody Brussels chancers.

The crumblies would be lapping it up and wrapping scarves around their necks in true Blitz spirit fashion.

Correct me if I’m wrong because I do get confused a lot but didn’t you say you had a degree in EngLt?

3 years at uni and the best you can come up with on a football forum is ‘crumblies’?

What a waste of an education. 😊

Forgive me if I relax a little on a football forum and use lazy tropes.

If you’d prefer me to compose a dissertation of some sort for a more in depth analysis, let me know and I’ll see what I can do for you.

Even modern goalkeepers decide to hoof it upfield sometimes.

McVey's post was idiotic for obvious reasons, but also because it was an opportunity for the Tories to open an attack line on Starmer and his cabinet by painting them as the priggish bores they seem to be and instead people are talking about her stupid Tweet

Anyway, I see Jess Phillips has been caught out bullshitting again (or so I hope)

Sadly I think it’s too late, Europe is swamped with illegal migration, they’ll keep on coming now, freedom of movement was the green light, there are 4 million in Turkey refugee camps, millions in Africa who’s dream is to live in the west. They’ll have to be some change in the mentality of governments across Europe to stop the tide.

Looks like another lurch to the right is on the cards in Germany now for the usual reasons.

I was in Dresden in 2019 and I saw a couple of mobile phone shops offering free SIM cards for ‘refugees’ This was after Merkel’s ‘refugees welcome’ statement. I was there again last year and said refugees were sleeping on the pavements. The free offers had disappeared. Dresden is in Saxony where the elections will be held tomorrow.

Bit uncomfortable trying to use a sim card to sleep on.

SIM cards are free in the UK too. For everyone as well. Not just 'refugees'.

You can pick then up from the supermarket for any network.

Unless they were offering free top ups to refugees as well? Otherwise it just sounds like a way of getting people to spend money in their shop. Crafty German buggers!

Surprised its took this long… I see the BBC already demonising the  AfD and comparing them with the Nazis.

It's what they always do. They think it will halt the rise of the right.

Nothing will.

Im not sure it’s a massive lurch to the right, just right thinking folk of any political preference who think immigration has gone way too far and the only option to stop it is to vote for parties that have reducing it as a key policy/target. So I’d say any growth in marginal right wing parties would be short lived if one of the centrist/socialist parties acted to stop it.
