After all it is pensioners who will be requiring the NHS services at a disproportionately higher level than any other demographic. As the majority will have worked for 50+ years paying income tax deserve to be looked after, some OAP'S are far healthier than a lot of younger folk too Quote

We're saving up a lot a pain both from Education and Housing which those now in retirement have benefitted from. Do I benefit from it? Yes. My father bought his house cheaply and earnt a very good salary. Will we benefit when they die? Yes. But not everyone is that lucky. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 And just to be a full Keynesian, being teachers were they net generations of money or just state employed? The value of Capitalism says I'm worth monetary wise 5 nurses. That's bonkers. But some on here would say it is what it is. Do I take from the State? No. Do I generate money? Yes in my own way. Should I be renumrated as much as I am, well, now that's for a more nuanced discussion. Quote

Where I have moved there is a massive campaign because a huge farm has sold their land to a property developer. It's lovely, it's near where I now live and it's a bucolic ideal of Britain. What some people in the village don't realise it wasn't actually a village until the 1970s when houses were built to house families. Now these people are complaining their grandchildren can't live in Whitstable because house prices are beyond their reach and the public transport is poor (which it is) Not realising there is one school in whitstable, most children go to school in Canterbury and which the new houses there will be increased infrastructure, no building on green belt and better housing for younger people. There isn't one immigrant in our village unless you count us DfL's and as I say on our lane it's all retired folks in massive houses that they just can't look after anymore. Blair came into power on Education, Education, Education...now it should be Housing, Housing, Housing. Earning as a couple over 180k a year shouldn't mean renting a house for over 2k a month but it does. And we're not alone in this insane situation. How can a couple earning 180k a year not afford a house in Kent? Quote

But before we earnt that we built up loads of debt with divorce, CSA quite rightly took a huge chunk of that for me (before I was earning that much) and we're paying that back now. Yes our take home is silly, but our outgoings mean we've got 2k a month 'free money' between us and that has to cover bills, petrol etc. My free money is about 600 quid a month generally from a 5k a month take home. mickbrown Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Pretty sure my mum is eligible for pension credit and isn’t claiming it. I’ll be sorting that next week Quote

So most couples earning 180k a year would easily be able to afford a good standard of accommodation in Kent then. Quote

I'm referring to his advice to wrap up if you were cold (should be fairly intuitive based on the post if I replied to). No bikes referenced here son.
