Ipswich Barnsley Big Nosed Mick

Just what we need. Imagine that team talk. ‘Look lads you know I am off and we have nothing to play for. Try not to get injured or foul anyone they are giving me a lift home after’.

I can only read the title of this thread to the beat of little fish big fish cardboard box

  • He's done alright, a few play off seasons, 2 championship titles and a decent world cup, there's a lot worse knocking about in this league

  • Fuck me gently! Where do I sign up for this????!!!!!

I was thinking yesterday there’s a chance he might be their manager next season

He's left tonight Ipswich tonight.

There was talk of him getting the WBA job

I wanted him when we got Dougie Fucking Freedman.

Uncompromising northerner who generally builds in your face teams which, at the time, fitted our profile.

In hindsight (and foresight for you), what a huge mistake appointing Freeman over the experience of Mick.

He would be great for you, perfect match.

Ffs Mick McCarthy is shit. With hindsight he is still shit. Awful manager and a Yorkshire twat at that????

Probably a good match as your next manager but one, after some fancy dan foreign Johnny has failed

Correct, achieved fuck all.

Phil Parkinson for one

Honestly. I don't get it. He has led some truly awful teams, buys a load of carthorses and is remarkably dull in style of play and demeanour.

I know of boards who lack ambition but fans? This is what a McCarthy appointment would imply.

He would probably get us to finish 12th for the next 6 seasons in a row. Season over by late Feb every season.

Not for me

That would be a huge achievement in itself, and very successful. Seems there are still Bolton fans who don't understand that we're now a small fish in a big pool. And until someone with more money than sense rocks up we'll stay that way.

Kept wolves up twice in the PL as well, built that team up from scratch

More often than not he challenges for the play offs in this league

I'd take that

I reckon he's judged more by his abrasive personality than his managerial ability

He's judged by fans who watch as much Premiership/La Liga as they do their own team nowadays and are conditioned into thinking that their side should be matching the Real Madrid/Man City's they watch often. The realities of where their club is at and the resources they have are not really grasped.

Read a decent article earlier this week basically saying fans on the outside will say be careful what you wish for, but Ipswich fans have to sit there and actually watch this mid table, lack of ambition dross. They want a bit more out of life, who can blame them?*

They've not been big spenders. In a league with a lot of big spenders. Not sure how that is Mick's fault. Didn't he come in and turn them round?

End of the day only a few clubs can succeed in the league each year and most of those will have been able to buy the best players. There will always be a Millwall/Leicester that surpasses expectation, but that is a rarity rather than the norm.

There are countless examples of fans getting bored wanting a longstanding solid manager out then regretting it.

Aye, lets's not be impatient and go for McCarthy. Wait for Wenger.

I think the gist was they were bored of the style of football they were playing and sick of having an abrasive manager ramming the point home that this is the best they could hope for every chance he got. I cant blame them for wanting more out of life, had it enough watching our lot.

That's not to say it's the most sensible attitude to have though, granted.

they've not done so bad

he led them out the relegation zone to 14th in his first season

then to 9th

then to play offs for first time in 10 years

then 7th

16th last season and mid table this

in a league where you see the likes of Reading go from play offs to relegation / struggling, it's not bad

you could argue he stayed a season or so too long but those first 4 seasons, I'd take that right now

pretty sure the "lack of ambition" comes from above though, as opposed to from the manager, and they don't look to have been backing him for a promotion push in his time there compared to what other teams are spending

I’d have him over the fooking tool we have now

I do get that though, I reckon there's a shelf life of 3-4 seasons in this league - and if you're starting to go backwards then it's time for a change

but he's more than capable at this level as shown by his CV and would certainly be a step up for us right now
