By mid 80's they'd been purged There were 9 English in the '77 team plus one Welsh and one (Anglo-)Irish. '78 had 8 English and 3 Scottish, with 2 of the English not in the previous year. Yes the original discussion was about the quality or potential quality of the England team then. Same discussion after about the "golden generation". I'm spotting a pattern.
