The biggest match of Parky's managerial career was the League Cup Final v Swansea, Bradford got hammered 5-0 at Wembley.

I can think of a recent Bolton manager this bears comparison with, it isn't Rioch

Yes you are right. Taking Bradford in league two to the final and getting beat 5-0 by premiership Swansea is just the same as Bolton, a premiership side and favourite, losing 5-0 to premiership Stoke in a semi-final.

FFS.

He took a league two side to a major final. Probably one of the best managerial achievements period in the past 20 odd years.

Would be interesting to see your and other more mature supporters like Casino's top 3 BWFC managers.

Ian Greaves, Bruce Rioch & probably Parkinson......it will be easier to judge after a period of reflection, but i think Parky has done as well any manager we've had, when the circumstances he's had to work under are taken into account.

As a kid my dad once told me that Greaves allowed the team to become too old and said that's why we faltered soon after.

One of those things that stuck in my mind don't know why, nor if it was justified.

A genuine comment/observation or a bit selective? Genuinely no idea.

I’d have Todd in ahead of Parky. He built the hardest team you will ever see and pissed a league title.

Big sam, rioch and Todd for me.

Parky has done brilliantly under massive constraints. But he’s a bit of being a great yet imo. Not much mind.

that is correct ,but also signed cantello ,and clements , which were our downfall , apart from peter reid getting injured and not getting 600k for him

As much as 96/97 will always be my favourite season no matter what, Todd is tarnished by not going up with a side that contained Bergsson, Frandsen, Fish, Jensen, Johansen, Gudjohnsen etc and the implosion (not his fault as such) that followed. Though without said implosion, I doubt we’d have ended up with Allardyce. Sliding doors and all that.

Allardyce

Rioch

Greaves

Parkinson has the chance to smash in there

What I would say is that it's a measure of the judgement of the top 2 that they got out in time

Any longer and I don't think either would be so fondly remembered

That season was incredible but he let down in the 2 after for me. That Watford final was awful.

Still 96-97 was a beast of a season and you can't take that away from him.

Jimmy Armfield and Phil Neal turned the direction of travel round, Ian Greaves and Bruce Rioch had the advantage of taking the club on when it had this momentum. Parky has changed the direction of travel so he could be top 3 by the time he’s done.

Allardyce is a clear number 1 for me.
